Hi just to ask is it kinda normal to spend two days in bed so so tired day 5 and 6 for me no energy at all . Touch wood so far sickness is better with new tablets even though I can eat well I’m loosing weight and this is worrying me any hints or tips on how to maintain weight . I hope the tiredness will lift before next round .oh any tips on heartburn

  • The tiredness you describe is not unusual. Day 5 and 6 sound familiar, although for me it was days 5,6, and all the way to 10. I used to call it, "Day 6 phenomena" because that's when it started to hit the hardest, with the deterioration starting on the evening of Day 5.

As for losing weight, I'd talk to your nurse, and certainly mention it when you next see the consultant. If you do, ask if it is ok to use a protein powder, available in health food shop and normally used by body builders. They come in different flavours and can be mixed with either milk or juice if I remember correctly. (This is not only about maintaining weight, but about making sure you are getting the right nutrition and not just empty calories.)

  • Thanks I will do . I always found it so hard to loose weight and now it’s disappearing. Feels strange

  • Hi, I was always a bit nauseous and tired on days 4&5, but we all do react quite differently. In terms of heartburn, I was prescribed Omeprazole, which I took daily (still do actually) and then upped to 2 a day around each chemo cycle, it helped me a lot as the heartburn was horrific in cycle 1.  Good luck

  • Thanks I will ask my nurse at next appointment just  can’t get my head round the tiredness so different from round 1 third day I can’t get out of bed I think will I even get through this

  • Hi Maggie, I found every round to be a bit different but the tiredness is tough and I felt the same. Agree omeprazole really helped for me, I don’t know why they don’t give this in our support drugs pack, I also took 2 a day, made a huge difference. Also, have a ritz cheese cracker every hour or so, I don’t know why but it helped, to eat a little something regularly x

  • Thanks for all the help and support it really means a lot it’s like having another family to turn 2 xx

  • I've just done round 3 into fec-t chemo. This one hit me harder than 1st 2. Was in bed solid first 3 days and not eaten hardly anything just plenty fluids, in and out bed day 4, dressed day 5 still no energy at all, fatigued and wobbly legs, going into day 7 slowly and I mean slowly improving. Suffer terrible heartburn but manageable with lansoprazole, coated gums and affect taste, constipated and bowel problems but again manageable with laxido drinks, senna. Like the good and helpful members on here say everybody's different in how they are with each treatment, I've got that mindset that each session will get worst each time for me so I'll know what to expect and I'm prepared.  I'm having a lot of low times and it's taking it's toll but I keep telling myself battle through it and I'll come out the other end. Hope all goes well for you and good luck.

  • Thanks so much for your reply tomorrow day 9 so hopefully I’ll start to feel better hope all goes well for u 2 . I’ll have to prepare for the hard times and battle on like u say and come out the other end . Good luck and thank u
