Received the news that I have a primary recurrence, just 3 years since I had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Been taking Tamoxifen but have a recurrence of the same type.
This time I have been told it’s a mastectomy, no messing around.
my question is, Ive been offered a DIEP reconstruction. Now I can have it immediately after the mastectomy surgery, or I can delay it for 3 years. I just wondered what other peoples thoughts are who have experienced this similar situation. What were the surgery recovery times like either way? Also is it painful? The constant quandary is keeping me awake at night. Along with this hot flush
Hi JellyKelly
Sorry I can't help with your query and I am sorry to hear that you have been re-diagnosed with breast cancer. I am replying to 'bump' your post back to the top of the first page, in the hope someone is around now who can help.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Thank you Lesley
still seems a bit surreal, just different questions this time….

I’m just waiting on some scans, if it is outside my previous radiotherapy area I can have it. If it is inside my radiotherapy area I will not be allowed. It’s the same if it’s too close to the chest wall muscle they will chemo first then surgery so I’ll have time to think about it.
how are you feeling post surgery? Are you heeling ok?
