Hi, just want to know if this is normal. I finished treatment 8 weeks ago. My hair has grown back about a cm at the sides and back but I’m bald on the top and the front. No eyelashes, eyebrows or body hair. I look like a balding man. Does hair take longer to,grow back on docetaxel? I’ve read docetaxel can cause permanent hair loss so I’m a bit worried? I would expect a bit of patchiness but not a bald top with hair all around the sides.
thanks so much Becca
Hi Becca, I had docetaxel and it just takes a very long time to re grow, I finished chemo September 2020 and I still don't have any underarm hair, my eyebrows and lashes are still not fully re grown but my head hair has finally got to look normal but still very short. Love from Ann
Mine took until about months 3-4 to really start growing back. And even then, sides grew faster than top and as I've sti not cut it, a year on, my sides are still about twice as long as the top.
Mine was also very slow growing for months.
Kazaa it is isn’t it but from what I’m reading it takes longer anyhow even if it’s not permanent. Fingers x for us both xx
Beat the breast thanks so much. Glad your hair is getting there xx
Hi Becca, I know your post is a few days old and I hope your hair has made good progress in the meantime. However, I thought I’d share a comment one of the oncology nurses made today; (I start the dreaded chemo on Thursday, so had my preassessment today). I mentioned that I was “ok” with the hair loss, but thought I’d try the cold cap anyway to keep my follicles as healthy as I could (even if my hair thinned, I’d get rid and resort to a wig). When she asked me why, i said I’d heard that hair can be permanently lost with Docetaxel; she responded by saying that was (in her words) “an old wives tale” and that people always say docetaxel is more unpleasant, but it actually isn’t! I was told that people perceive it to be worse because of the cumulative effect of chemo. Because folks usually feel more “wretched” during the second half of treatment; whatever it be, they blame docetaxil. I don’t know if that’s true, but sounds reasonable. Maybe we’re all different with hair growth and the same results would have been the case with continued EC. Anyway, how is your hair now? Any better? Best of luck x
