Have just had my first weekly dose of Paclitaxel and first 3 weekly Herceptin injection. My tongue feels like I’ve taken something too hot and that I’ve burnt it, although I haven’t. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this?
I had this on docetaxel. In fact one of my lowest moments in chemo was brushing my teeth and accidently ripping a hole out of my tongue as it was so delicate.
Others have given some great tips to make it feelbetter and I'd just add to be careful with it!
It will get better, stick in there.
Thank you for your reply. Have been prescribed Diflam Oral Rinse to help. Hope you are keeping well now. Eleanor
Thanks so much for the advice and tips I will try them today, I have had my 5th round of Docetaxel one more to go!! My taste is always altered almost non existent for at least 10days after chemo but this time I have a new roughness to the roof of my mouth and my tongue which feels burnt and stingy. I have had a good check and a thrush infection isn’t apparent so I will try your suggestions. Heartburn has also been a factor this time but hopefully Omeprazole will see that off, I think it is just Docetaxel doing damage to my soft tissues but as long as it is getting rid of the cancer too I will put up with it. Best of of luck to you and all on this group it has been a great support this morning x
