I had Lumpectomy , radiotherapy last year... Just wanting a question answering.. Is it normal to still be in discomfort near where they operated..? Or am i just overly worrying..? Thought by now, 6 months on i would be out of discomfort. Or is it me just being a silly monkey..

Stay safe.. Ruth x

  •  Hi, I had surgery in August and radiotherapy in October snd still have some swelling and discomfort. I saw my oncologist this week and she thinks it's just long term effects of radiotherapy but she does want to keep an eye on it. She also mentioned they have a radiotherapy long term effects specialist that I can speak to if it goes on for 6 months. Perhaps you can chat with your consultant to get some reassurance or support.

It's frustrating, isn't it?   Best of luck

  • I had surgery in February and radiotherapy in April and I still have some discomfort, especially if I sleep on that side. Breast tissue doesn't like to be disturbed so it takes a really long time for it all to knit back together and heal. I was also told that mine would heal a lot quicker than others as I'm mid-40s and have dense breast tissue. The older you are, the longer it can take. I recently had a lump investigated (it was scar tissue) and being examined was quite uncomfortable as all the tissue around the scar hurt when manipulated like that.

  • Hello Ruth I had surgery in May 2021 then chemo, then radiotherapy in October 2021 my breast is still tender and still slightly blue Relaxed from the dye I had for scans to put the clips in in March 2021. I call it my mamma smuf boob Grinning so no, you are not alone or being silly good luck with your ongoing recovery xx

  • Hi Ruth, my surgery was august 2021 and my surgery site, lumpectomy with reconstruction can still be nippy or uncomfortable especially if turned in bed or hold my 6 month old grandson for a while or even do too much in house in one day. It’s reassuring to see I’m not alone after surgery months ago

  • Hello all.. Thanks for answering me... I phoned my BCN up yesterday just to reassure me shes making me an appointment with the consultant just to make sure..  Its uncomfy near my ribs and back.. She did say it could be due to the radiotherapy, or the surgery... But she said it doesnt hurt to get it checked.
