Hi Everyone

I'm new to this group.  I have just finished chemo at the end of November and radio end of December for breast cancer.  Just recently I have been troubled with dry mouth. It persist all day long and I have to sip water during the night as well. I have read that this is quite common aftef treatment. I would like to know if anyone out there has similar symptoms.

Been to the dentist yesterday and they suggested I try oralieve products.

Regards

Pam

  • I have dry mouth time to time what happens is chemo can interfere with production of saliva which I found out is essential for teeth as lack of it can cause decay the dentist can recommend a dry mouth mouthwash there are different brands but they work as protect teeth as well ..water good but the mouthwash is important addition …I have nice teeth and was determined not to lose them lol lost my hair and marbles instead hope this helps xx

  • Thank you for replying.   I'm using Biotiene at the minute but it's  not really helping......I've also read that anxiety can cause it as well.....I lost my hair as well but I can see some new growth. So looking forward to having my hair back....could be a while yet.

  • It is an anxious time anyway and it’s hard going sometimes ..but I find this site so comforting as you can ask anything about anything so hope you get relief and a bit of relaxation xxx

  • Hi, I suffered a really  dry mouth whilst  on Docetaxol. Sourced, through Dr Google, mouthwash, toothpaste and chewing gum, all of which really helped. even normal gum helps. Like you I was also still sipping water.

I’m now almost three months post chemo and have the opposite problem - excess saliva and  when talking I have to keep dabbing corners of mouth. Hubby suggested fishing out one of the grandkid’s bibs!!

Think the excess is still better than the dry mouth. I know it’s still early days and hopefully this will improve.

Take care and hope this wee bit of into helps a little. xx

    Hi Fushia

Do you have a horrible taste too as I’m 3 weeks post chemo the horrible taste that had been on and off through chemo has now returned and my mouth is dry too especially at night . Thought post chemo it would go x

  • I had a really thick saliva and horrible taste while on chemo but didn't have dry mouth all the time. I just think that chemo wrecks the whole body. I was on Doxorurbin which finished end of November then I had radiotherapy which finished 22 December. Dry mouth has really only started this month.  There is a product called oralieve and I think I will give it a go.

  • Yes I did have a horrible taste and still would have from time to time.  I have also read that this can last for 3 months and sometimes much longer. I've tried ice lollies etc but they only quench it for a short time. I'm going to try oralieve products if I can get them locally otherwise I will order on line.

  • just wondering if it might be worth you trying dry mouth pastilles eg Salivix Plus.  I used them when suffering with my mouth during chemo. I bought them from Amazon but would presume chemists should have them too.they really helped me!
