Where do you get your wigs, don’t need brilliant quality, I have NHS voucher (£100), but the salon accepting from my hospital are starting at about £300, which I don’t really want to spent?

  • Hi lucaha

I got gorgeous ones from amazon, have a look there are some lovely natural ones. I had about 5, no one ever knew they were wigs and I'm fussy xxx

  • Hi

that’s a bit steep ! Def try another town near you . My wig was about £60 but NHS voucher covered it . My wig was acrylic and it was brilliant . I was advised against natural hair as they are more work ( like our own hair ) . My wig was so natural ,I wore the cold cap , so I didn’t need it for too long . My hair was thin but I still had some . Cold cap success depends on the type of chemo that you have.

Ask your local Maggies centre or similar as I’m sure they can give you more advice - on new and Second hand wigs I washed and handed my wig snd shampoos to the Macmillan nurse when I was finished with it . Some ladies buy a wig and never use it !

don’t buy expensive as the weather is getting cooler and you might be happy with a hat . Lots of my friends preferred hats .

    good luck

  • Hello,

As  says....you don't have to have a wig. I didn't.  I bought several inexpensive colourful, ready tied turbans from Amazon. Then I had two bamboo caps...one blue, one cerise on which I wore headbands that matched my clothes. I was always getting compliments even from strangers. The bamboo is fantastic....cool in heat, warm in cool. I bought some nice pull on hats that I could cover the turban on very cold days. I lost my hair from Jan to Oct. I had the turbans ready to put on when my hair came out and my OH shaved my head. It helped. I could look at myself without hair later when I was ready but to begin with I just had a pretty turban. For me less of a shock.

Hope all goes well for you. It may take a few months but your hair will grow back and you won't need that wig at all.........

    Love Karen

  • Hi Lucaha, there was a delay in getting my wig voucher and by the time it came through my chemo was well under way and I was too poorly to even think about trying on wigs.

I bought some very pretty turbans from Annabandana and wore those. My greatest fear was that my granddaughter and my sister's grandchildren would be frightened/upset if they saw me without hair but they took it in their stride so I didn't even wear the turbans when I was with them, just when I was with other adults.
