Hi All, Just seen my oncologist to receive my ultrasound results following 4 rounds of EC and unfortunately the tumours have grown. I feel very strange about this as my breast feels so different it’s soft now, not hard like before, it’s droopy like the other one and my nipple is also not as inverted, was convinced it had worked. The plan is now for 12 weekly Taxotere and 3 weekly Herceptin as I am HER2+
Has anyone else had such results? Then had positive shrinkage with Taxotere and herceptin?
Still remaining positive as I my boob is so different I cannot believe that nothing has improved.
Thanks
Leigh
Hello,
This must be very distressing for you but at least the oncologist is trying something new. I'm afraid I can't comment more factually because my tumour was removed before chemo.
However, there is another thread that posted an identical problem yesterday and I think you could reassure each other. If you go to the Struggling Daughter thread you will find a mirror of your own situation.
I hope the new treatment is more successful. Taxotere is a strong drug. You may feel burning in your hands and feet as well as extreme sensitivity. Don't let that happen without telling your BCN or oncologist immediately. I made that mistake thinking this was just what had to happen to treat the cancer but it was causing some permanent damage.
Take care and I hope you've found some sleep now.
Love Karen
Thanks so much Lacomtekp really appreciate your reply and I will look up that post. Thanks for the heads up on the side effects too.
sometimes we just accept and struggle through as we don’t want to bother anyone
wishing you all the best, take care

Hi Rumple01 I had 3 rounds of EC before I had an mri and they realised it wasn’t working and was actually growing, I was devastated at the time as I had just assumed that it would work. They quickly switched me to docetaxel and I’ve had 2 of those now and can really notice a difference in my breast, like yours it is a lot softer and my nipple doesnt pull in like it did. I think the taxel is much stronger and doing a great job but I do still think that the EC must have done something. I don’t think they can see everything on the scans and a lot of it is guess work. That fact that your breast is feeling different I think is a very good sign. Don’t get too disheartened, you will get through this! Good luck with the rest of your treatment x
Thanks so much got your reply Pumpkinpie2002 it’s great to read that you are now seeing positive changes. I agree with you in that I know it must be doing some good as my breast is do different it’s just so disappointing that the scan/data didn’t support what I feel and also see. Onwards and upwards this is just the start of the journey and looking forward to my new chemo friend and herceptin working hard to kill this disease..
good luck with your treatment, wishing you all the very best and thanks again for your reply, made me feel lots better
Glad I could help Rumple01 I also posted on here when I found out the EC wasn’t working and someone replied saying that although their tumour hadn’t shrunk on the scans when they did surgery they found that it was dead inside. So I guess anything can happen! But I really do think you feeling a change is the most important thing and you should hold onto that for hope x
Hi , Rumple01 and Pumpkinpie2002 - just wanted to say I had exactly the same thing . I have a 7 cm ER + Her- lump and two positive axilla lymph nodes .After 4 rounds of EC there was no change showing on the ultra sound . This was strange as I thought that it had softened and I was devastated . When the hospital then did a PET scan it showed the cancer had gone from my lymph nodes and the cancer activity in the lump had reduced by 25 % . So as you said you saw from a previous thread - it can die form the inside .
keeping everything for you guys .

Hi Dahlia8, thanks so much for your reply. I am delighted to know that you had such positive results after your 4 x ECs but this didn’t show on the ultrasound, wish you hadn’t had the suffer the trauma of the ultrasound results!! It’s really encouraging to know that the ultrasound isn’t the whole story hope that you are keeping well and good luck
with your journey xx
