Hi all,

thank you all for being here for others and me in this case.

I saw consultant today to see my result of all the scans, gladly I have cancer only in my right breast, MRI showed extra more little things, originally it was one 20mm, another 25 mm and nodes also positive, so mastectomy is first follow up by chemo, still waiting for HER results, anyway, plus one is ER positive, the other is ER negative so not straight forward.

My thoughts are, I want both boobs taken and reconstructed, as my mind wouldn't go with though one breast is mine and the other plastic, plus as precaution, I am only 37, I am seeing plastic surgeon tomorrow, (under NHS what are chances I will be granted to go with double mastectomy if left breast is healthy according to scans).

Has anyone been through similar process? What are you thoughts, what are questions to asked?

Thank you

xx

  • I understand that in certain genetic situations they will do a double mastectomy where one breast is not affected. Is there any genetic link in your case?

Well, my grandma had BC very late in her life, so I don't think it's properly down to genetic, but they are considering as I am sure my brain would play up not having both side same,

Now is the question as I am opting for immediate reconstraction, I have option either implants or tummy flaps ( which might not work as I am not enough fat eventhough I would go down with size).

What are your opinions on implants or flaps? The surgeon is not very keen on implants as I am fairly young, which would mean lots of replacing operation in future (roughly every 10 years), plus she mentioned there are sometimes some problems with them and women tend to remove them completely.

Hi, I have the BRCA2 mutation, and am waiting to have a risk reducing bilateral mastectomy.  I've not had cancer, but have the gene fault, so my hospital are happy to remove both breasts, and use my belly to reconstruct.
