I’m literally in agony. I can’t walk the dog I can’t stand up straight I cant do much. I’m taking Pregabalin and Naproxen. I get some minor relief but it doesn’t last long. The pain is in my butt and its absolute agony don’t know how much longer I can bear this.
No it’s not sciatica it’s very low like Butt pain - it’s so bad x
Hi again did you have pain very low down like in your butt area?
Sounds horrendous!
Could it be damage to your coccyx? (No idea how you might have done that.) I bashed and maybe broke my coccyx as a teenager and the action of standing up or sitting down was very painful. During chemo I did have a deep bone ache in my coccyx which I assumed was the filgrastim flaring up the old injury.
Hope you get some relief!
Hello,
I'm sorry to read how much pain you are in.
After my chemo finished and some months had passed I had agonising pain in my leg and often running down my buttocks. I was referred after MRI to a neuro surgeon. It seemed that although I never had pain in my lower back, the pain was caused by pressure from a vertebrae pushing on the sciatic nerve. It wasn't the standard sciatica that people get where they are often immobile a week or two and then with rest things improve and the pain is always in the back. This pain is in the buttocks and leg because the sciatic nerve continues to the ankle but is less common. It becomes continuous because the spinal channel is permanently restricted. I needed an operation to ' decompress' L4/L5. Some bone was removed and packing put in it's place. The surgeon is convinced some chemo drugs can cause this deterioration because of the numbers of post chemo patients referred but he cannot get most oncologists to admit it.
It took a long time after my op for the pain to go but it mostly has now although a recent scan has shown I still have other problems in that area.
I mention this to you because, like you, I would never have accepted I had sciatica as I was convinced that caused back pain and my pain was always leg and buttocks. It would cause me to stop in my tracks and often I couldn't move my leg until I'd sat and rested. I would practically drag my leg to the nearest cafe physically using my hands to pull it.
I hope you get your results soon. I am assuming the PET scan will rule out a spread of cancer into bones but do you have the MRI results because that will show the spinal.cavity.
I can't offer a solution to the painif it proves to be similar. I never found a pain killer to help. I was taking the maximum dose of Neurotin..500g a day...and still in pain.....then a physio gave me a very simple exercise to do. I bend backwards from the waist while standing 12 times and do this 3 times a day. However, I had to have had the op first. Although I can't suggest a solution I can empathise. I know how much pain you are in. You are not making fuss but you must see the right specialists....neurologists and neuro surgeons...... to get it sorted.
Thinking of you. Take care. Love Karen
Oh my Lordy Moony
Your reply is closer to anything I have heard this far. Having said that I had an mri bone scan before chemo, weeks back because I complained about coccix pain then last week another mri with contrast dye (all clear). Then yesterday PET scan with contrast dye - again all clear. When I walked yesterday and today so so slowly - like not far - freeking agony in my butt. Oncologist does not understand nor do I. I garden, play tennis walk my dog - I can’t do any of those things. I’m so glad of your contact xxxx
