Permanent hair loss-Taxotere

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.

I just wondered if anyone has experienced permanent hair loss after Taxotere? I have some hair back 18 months after my last treatment but not a lot. Oncologist has been promising me a referral to a dermatologist since last October but so far, despite me and my BC nurse calling on numerous occasions, she has done nothing. Is there any point in me continuing to try to get this appointment or should I just give up?

if the hair loss is permanent I’d just rather they told me than all these empty promises. Thing is looking in the mirror it’s just a constant reminder of what I’ve been through. Has anyone had this or has anyone been offered any treatment for this and was it successful?

Thanks for listening you guys, much appreciated. Big hugs.

  • How much hair do you have left Bramble?will be happy to let you know what helped me,mostly thickening products, there are some good ones out there and I have tried most, but as I said depends on how much hair you have now to work with, the products need a certain amount of hair to anchor too.Am happy to go through my products and let you know.xx

  • forgot to mention, yes the inhibitors could be a reason, maybe read up on the one you are taking, wouldn,t be surprised, hair loss is mentioned with some of them, amongst other things.xx

  • Hi  I’m thinking I don’t really have enough hair for products to help make it look thicker. Like everyone else I’ve tried all the shampoos going and quite honestly they are a complete waste of money.

I started Letrozole 3 weeks after my last chemo so I think my body hasn’t had a chance to normalise itself before starting it. Who knows, once I finish the meds my hair may grow back, I only have to wait eight and a half years! Smiley

  • I read that about 8% of women suffer hair loss after Docetaxel (cold capping helps protect the roots for anyone about to have it!). I think some women gradually get more appear,  but you could ask to be referred. When my hair was thinning during chemo I bought a powder with fibres in ebay which made it seem thicker and filled in gaps. It depends how much hair you have?

Fingers crossed that you get it sorted! Xxx

    Hi

I'm interested in the hair products you used and what helped you, even though your post was addressing    Would you mind posting (or private message, if you prefer) the products?  I'd be very grateful and I'm sure others would too Slight smile

I have had significant hair thinnning for a long time (now 70 yrs) and hate it.  Not related to chemo, though, but probably age related.  I use Regaine, which has helped but my hair (on top) is still noticably thin.

I would really appreciate knowing more about your hair products, especially those you've found helpful, although I appreciate everyone is different, for a variety of reasons.

    Many thanks

I wish you, and everyone,  all the best for your future, hoping you can put all this behind you Slight smile

  • Sounds like your right,I am posting products anyway to chocdrop, hope your hair grows back, have you thought about taking Biotin, can help with condition of hair, but need to take for long time.xx

  • Hi chocdrop, here are products I have used, you don,t need to use much of any for them to have an effect,

L,oreal,Series Expert,Volumetry, spray on roots, don,t need much.Toppik Hair building conditioner, they also do other things.

FullMore is a coloured hair thicker in a spray,so you can choose your colour and fill in on the scalp, you have to get the hang of using this one but works well.

    Couvre,protein hair expander.

Schwarzkopf got to be, Volumanic root lifting spray.

    TreSemme Collagen Fullness Thickening balm.

Mark Hill style addict Volume Spray

charles Worthington Volume and bounce big blow dry spray.

also try little pots of the thickening powder you can find in Superdrug or boots.

For me FullMore was a good one to fill in the odd bold patch, has fibers in it use like a hairspray but have to be careful with it,too much is not good lol.

All of these worked for me,but all depends on how much hair you have to start with.xx

  • Believe it or not I did the cold cap…hair fell out after two weeks and that was on the FEC part of treatment. Think I’m just one of the unlucky 8%!

  • Hi Bramble22

I had docetaxol as part of treatment. It's about 18 months since finished chemo. Hair growing back, grey. I stuck to natural products my daughter uses them and has amazing hair. I used olive oil a couple of times a week as a rub/massage and I only use natural shampoo, so aloe Vera etc no chemicals at all . it seems to be working. Hope this helps.

    Xxx

  • Just wondering? Did you lose all your hair after the first session? Did you carry on or did you pack in after the first one?

i had 3 sessions of EC and 4 sessions of docetaxal with pertuzamab and trastuzumab which I finished on 21st March but still get 3 weekly cycles of P&T until end of November.

While I did lose a lot of hair from around 2 weeks after the first session and then throughout the whole time I ended up with around 60 percent left.  So a lot thinner but not bald.

after the chemo, my hair has started to grow back very thick but at the same time I continued to lose my longer hair.

Just recently I have given up on the long hair and had it all cut off and now have very short hair that I cannot do a thing with as it is going in all directions and is very curly in places! So I still wear a hair topper wig thing which I find very uncomfortable at times.

I am glad I continued with the cold cap but I am also disappointed with the end result of having to cut off my hair.

but after hearing your story with struggling to get any regrowth I realise I am very lucky to have my regrowth.

keep strong and keep positive as I am sure if you have got some fuzz, you will eventually get it back. I totally feel for you though as I am so upset with how I look.....but very glad to be alive!
