Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.
I just wondered if anyone has experienced permanent hair loss after Taxotere? I have some hair back 18 months after my last treatment but not a lot. Oncologist has been promising me a referral to a dermatologist since last October but so far, despite me and my BC nurse calling on numerous occasions, she has done nothing. Is there any point in me continuing to try to get this appointment or should I just give up?
if the hair loss is permanent I’d just rather they told me than all these empty promises. Thing is looking in the mirror it’s just a constant reminder of what I’ve been through. Has anyone had this or has anyone been offered any treatment for this and was it successful?
Thanks for listening you guys, much appreciated. Big hugs.
Hi Bramble
Sending you big virtual hugs. I had the same drug and had the last dose in March. My hair is coming back slowly, so I am not in the same position as you are. Just a suggestion, why not contact your GP and ask for a referral from them. I think that GP should be just as able to initiate the referral.
Wishing you all the best.

WallyDug (are you Scottish by any chance) Thanks so much for the suggestion, I didn’t even think of that! I’ve just been assuming everything had to go through my Oncologist. Will give my GP a ring and see if she can do that! As I say I have hair but not a lot and have now resorted to wearing a wig...not as bad as I imagined I must admit.
Thanks so much again!! x
Hi Bramble22
Unconnected with chemo, I have thinning hair, unfortunately. I wanted a referral to a specialist but then the GP found out that my ferritin levels needed to be over 70 (whatever units). After a blood test, mine were only 39 so I've been taking iron supplements to bring the level up ( I couldn't tolerate the 'normal' iron supplements so get one from Amazon which is fine - message me if you need to know more details)
My hair has improved, but not brilliant. The referral never happened due to other reasons.
Just thought this might help you
Wishing you the best of luck
Hi I finished My chemotherapy and radiotherapy October 2019 unfortunately my hair is growing very slowly but extremely thin with my scalp showing through I waited a year and as the oncologist wasn't concerned I asked the gp to refer me to a dermatologist, on their recommendation I tried rogaine high strength which you can buy from the chemist fir 3 months but didn't notice any change so had a biopsy and am now trying dermovate lotion for another 3 months. I think it will probably be permanent but want to try everything as like you every time I look in the mirror its a shock. I wear a hat or wig when I go out. I am told it is rare when your hair doesn't grow back I don't know of anyone else.
Exactly the same as me lulupop Hoping for a referral soon. Giving it to the end of the month and then I’ll contact my GP. Only problem is I’ve just remembered that my GP has alopecia and has been wearing a wig for a couple of years now. Will that be a good thing as in she will understand where I’m coming from or will it be upsetting for her? She did discuss it with me when I first lost my hair. Something else to think about!
Thanks for your tips and much appreciated! x
Can’t think of anyone better to help you if your Dr.has suffered with hair loss, she will of been through the channels herself, all be it for alopecia, which is what I have had due to menopause, years ago I had the male pattern hair loss,at each side of my head, more on one side than the other, tried everything and found products were a great help, but these work depending on home much hair you have on your head to work with, can deffo let you know which worked for me,but think yours might be a lot thinner than mine was, anyway, now years on,I don,t need the products so much now,but do still use some.
I am a little concerned about which inhibitors I will be put on after the opp,it has taken me years to overcome my hair loss problem,so don,t want to go through that again,my heart goes out to you all with hair problems, after all it is so important to us.
Thanks everyone for your replies, much appreciated. Hopefully by the end of the month I’ll either have been referred to someone by my Oncologist or have been to see my GP.
Would love to know which products you used and now you have mentioned meds it’s just dawned on me that I’m taking Letrozole and wonder if that could be part of the problem.
