Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed in April had mastectomy 14th May and have my first appointment with oncologist Tuesday. My surgery went well and was told no cancer cells, nothing in my lymph nodes and is stage 1.

I'm just so scared all the time everything consumes me and I just can't seem to think about anything else.

Just wondering if anyone could help  me with any suggestions on how to help even if there small steps.

  • Welcome.....Having any cancer is awful so naturally you feel scared. However, it looks as if your cancer was found early. The results certainly sound encouraging. Treatments are very sucessful nowadays. We often read the sad stories of celebrities or people who haven't recovered but the stories of those who have recovered? Where are they? You will find many in this group. If you click on the name of the contributor, you will read their story. Hopefully some of them will help allay some of your fears. My own cancer was found in 2015. Although the treatment wasn't always pleasant....I have been signed off with just an annual mammogram for the rest of my life and advice to be vigilant.

You don't have long to wait now until Tuesday so I recommend you try to do something nice tomorrow that will distract your thoughts....coffee or lunch with a friend, shopping, a walk you enjoy.....anything that keeps you busy.

Let us know how Tuesday goes. The Awake thread in the Chat section is a good place to find understanding people. They will empathise with you but also like to laugh.

    Take care. Love Karen
