Hello Everyone
After a little advice/experience from ladies/men who may have gone through similar!
I had the cancer all clear, after surgery, chemo and radio recently, so I’m thrilled but in very mild discomfort from small fluid lump caused by radio. I have small seroma on the edge of my breast, which aches/hurts after a day wearing a bra....I feel I shouldn’t complain as it nothing, but wondering if I should ask to have it drained!
Grateful for any advice xxx
hi Kelstar9, I had a serona that developed after surgery but before radiotherapy so yours might be different to mine. I had it drained the first time but it came straight back in less than a day. It was under my armpit and very uncomfortable but not painful. I decided against having it drained again as I was told it might keep coming back and each time I get it drained would expose me to a risk of infection. It was eventually absorbed by my body and disappeared.
If you are in pain maybe try wearing a sports bra rather than a normal bra. I would also speak to your surgeon or breast care nurse and see what they say about getting it drained.
Hope you manage to get it sorted x
Thanks GodWilling
My team didn’t seem concerned when they confirmed it was a seroma, and it more discomfort than pain, it’s in an awkward place, I think I may give it some more time to see if it will naturally go! Thanku xxx
Hi Kelstar9
Seroma should absorb but, unfortunately, it takes a little while. However, should it show signs of getting infection, then you must go back to the Breast Team for their opinion as to whether to drain or not.
Regarding comfort and particularly as you're to have radiotherapy, I would strongly recommend getting a couple of crop tops. I've had breast cancer twice now (this year and 2021). In 2021, I continued wearing my regular bra and was sore under the boob, although the rest of my skin was fine.
This year, I got some crop tops and have had hardly any redness and definitely NO soreness, even under my boob. So, I really, very strongly, recommend. I got mine from Matalan but Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys etc all tend to have them. The supermarket ones were too big in the cup (I'm not a huge cup size) so worth shopping round and trying some on. They're really not expensive and wash well in machine. Mine have soft, removeable cups, which I like. Others also had soft removable cups
Hope this helps you
