Hi

My question is , Does anyone know if its safe to Take Turmeric Tablets ?
my joints ache in the morning and Evening after Being busy all day etc & a friend suggested Turmeric was good for joint pains ? I’m 49 & until having cancer Diagnosis in 2019 Was active & fairly fit just the odd aching back & knee from old equestrian injury.
cant see to find any clarification on this & doNt want to bother GP With this as feel I’m always online to them sorting medication requests etc.
thanks
Hi The Dog Momma welcome to the forum. I dont know enough about all the interactions but can only give you my personal experience of Turmeric. One of the ladies with whom I attended a Breast Cancer support group swore by this and used it in all her food and said that she felt the benefit that said it was always in powder form and not tablets. I personally haven't tried it so cant give any thoughts on it.
That said I am currently using this with my dog who has Arthritis and I asked the vet about it and they said no problem and worth a try and it does seem to be helping but he is also on other meds so difficult to tell for certain. Mine is also in powder form with a scoop to ensure the right dosage.
Hi Granny59
thank you . yes it’s good for older dogs GoldenPaste is a really pop way to feed it - with dogs it’s no problem I know what I’m going lol with me / humans it’s a different story - I might give it a go I’m due back in hosp Aug for injection so I think I’ll check with one of the nurses As well .
It does help as it's anti inflammatory amongst other things. The jury s out on high doses due it being possibly oestrogenic, but natural oestrogens (like tofu) are now apparently ok so it's a grey area! I take it sometimes as I figure that it isn't going to have much impact on the effect of letrozole, which at even 0.5mg daily can reduce oestrogen by almost 90%!
Hi
please do check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any supplements.
I have finished my chemo and radiotherapy and I am currently on pertuzamab and trastuzumab and recently started on anastrozole. When I checked what was safe to take to help my aching joints with the pharmacist where I am being treated, I was advised not to take turmeric supplements. Apparently it is okay for turmeric spice in cooking but there is no long term evidence as to what levels are safe in supplements. So I was only advised only to take glucosamine and chondroitin.
Always worth checking before taking anything?!
good luck!

There is conflicting evidence, and even a trial looking into turmeric to help joint pain for women on AI's.
I've been taking a level teaspoon of turmeric for years with hot cocoa every morning and didn't even think it would be an issue! I did ask about turmeric before chemo and was told it was fine for that.
I had ER+/PR+ grade 1, stage 2 cancer.
I originally took it for knee pain and it worked, though there were other things I did too.
I am taking zoladex and exemestane and have sore joints and muscles first thing in the morning until I've moved around a bit and again if I've sat for too long. I find the activity is what helps. I also have my turmeric / cocoa drink first thing in the morning so maybe it is helping!
I was getting really painful hips overnight on exemestane, to the extent where I couldn't sleep. I now take a hemp oil supplement in the evening and I no longer get the hip pain. Just plain hemp oil used for cooking etc but in capsule form as the oil needs to be kept refrigerated and goes off quite quickly.
If you're worried, ask your team. I just looked turmeric up and a quick glance only shows studies showing that it suppresses breast cancer cells.
HI,
Pubmed has some great articles on the benefits of tumeric.I take the powder with ground black pepper ( piperine) which increases its bioavailability by 2000% ,fresh lemon juice, fresh ground ginger and a few drops of olive oil, again to aid absorption.I can feel it get to work after a short time.
Hi BeattheBreast - your symptoms sound much the same as mine ! The injection I get 1/4ly is the same as Zoladex but is another “brand” begins with a “P” can’t remember what it is though - only started on this in Feb - can’t believe how much my joints ache feel like I’m 70 some days - my little toes still are tingly in the eves if I’ve been busy all day - lasting effects of the Chemo - whole feet used to feel like I was walking on a pebble beach At one time but this has eased off now . It’s hard as you want to help yourself but do t want to cause issues with meds as well - this Hemp oil also sounds a good idea as per Glucosamine - I need to look into both I think .
Hi Oscarthecatgotmehere
not heard of Pubmed is it a magazine ? but will look into this . I have a bit to go on now so hopefully I ‘Lol find something That may work soon
I take turmeric supplements that have pepper to aid absorption, I was told by my onco that this was fine. I am on Anastrazole and Ibrandronic acid. No side effects after 3 months. If I stop taking the turmeric the arthritis in my neck flares up.
