Hey everyone. I'm new here.

Found a lump on Saturday, no pain or anything just appewred overnight, was seen by my gp Monday morning and they did blood tests straight away and have got my appointment for breast clinic tomorrow, I'm so grateful it's so soon but also terrified as was told to expect a 2 week wait at least. Gp obviously didn't give anything away but noted my lump as 3cm and swollen lymph nodes. I'm 33, 2 children and I'm a wreck.

  • Hi Katie8, good to hear that your GP was so ‘on the ball’, that 2 week wait for an appointment can seem like an eternity! That does not make any difference to how you feel though, the panic is there no matter what the wait is. Hope you have some good support around you and your appointment tomorrow gives you some peace of mind.

    Best wishes to you x

Thanks, i think my brain is just doing overtime, naturally and what i assumed would be a couple of weeks wait wasn't and i had a cal the same day saying my hospital appointment was 4 days later. Just so worried.

  • Hi

GP's, or even breast consultants, can't diagnose cancer from just feeling the lump, and they truly don't have a list within a list for the two week clinic consultation. My GP didn't think my lump was cancerous but my appointment was within 2 days at the clinic - I think it just depends on what appointments they have available, at least you don't have the worry of a long wait. You are understandably in panic mode, there will be all sorts of feelings flying through your mind - just hold onto the fact that firstly, it may not be cancer (9 out of 10 referrals aren't) but if it is you have started the process and are on the way to being treated  and getting rid of it - cancer won't go away on its own so you have taken potentially the most important step you can take, not just for you but also for your family.

I am sure you will have a very sleepless night, but you will find everyone at the clinic is very lovely and kind, they do this all day every day but will make you feel like you are their only patient.

    Very good luck for tomorrow

    Jo x

  • I think we assume, naturally so, that when things happen quicker ( or slower ) than we think, is because there is something horrendous wrong…..it is very difficult to drag your mind set away from that….I’m waiting for scan results and the brain working overtime seems to be par for the course!!

    Good luck for tomorrow x

They were amazing at the breast clinic, I had examination, Ultrasound, Mammogram and a Core Biopsy as the radiographer found 2 lumps that she "didn't like the look of"

Took 3 samples from each so am very bruised now but the team all took the time to prepare me for next steps and have my appointment next Thursday with the Oncologist.

By far the worst bit is the anxiety of waiting, it is what it is and i know we have an exceptional structure in this country when it comes to treatment.

  • So glad you’ve had your appointment and are now feeling more positive moving forward knowing you’re in the best of hands.

I wish you well in you’re next appointment, let me know how you get on.

    Best wishes x

  • I Carnt believe how quick everything was. You read so much negativity about the nhs.  I started with a gp appointment on the 16 th Feb and finished my last radiotherapy appointment yesterday.  I had a lumpectomy and had to wait for an onco dx test to come back from America for two weeks.  I agree the waiting between appointment is awful. But hopefully your journey will be as quick as mine xxxx

Hi Katie. The Breast clinic staff are just great aren't they. We actually had a laugh when they took my biopsies. Waiting is awful and I have found that a couple of minutes on y own deep breathing helps.Very good luck with your appointment on Thursday. xx

They really are. The nurse and i were joking that i could feel the pressure of her putting padding on after each sample was taken to help stop the bleeding more then the actual biopsy itself. They were amazing.

Only 2 more days to go! The waiting is agonising but trying to keep busy with work and the kids etc x

  • So glad you feel so at ease with all the staff you’ve come across so far. I’m sure you’re children will more than keep you busy over next couple of days  of waiting!

    Good luck xx
