Hello,
I’d love some advice on what bras are suggested for after surgery and for further down the line suitable for an implant.
Should I be wearing a bra at night? And if so for how long or forever?
I had a mastectomy and lymph nodes removed on 27th April, so for the last 2 weeks I’ve had the dressing/electric pump attached to my left breast. I’ve initially been wearing the bra the BCN suggested but I’m not sure how long to wear this and when I can go back to my usual bras...or if I should be buying a different style, underwired? Non- underworld? Sports type? Push-up?
Any suggestions much appreciated!

hi Pineapple
i was adviced to wear a bra at night initally, this was a very soft bra with little support, but made sleeping more comfortable whilst getting used to the weight of the implant. I was adviced by the breast care team and purchased the bras from M and S. During the day I wore a normal bra which was not the one I wre before surgery due to a slight size change and needed more support, I was also adviced not to wear underwired bras but cannot recall why.
Hope this is of some help
All the best
Sapphie
Thanks so much,
I will hold off wearing my usual underwired bra and stick with the suggested light support M&S that I have for day and night aswell.
Really appreciate you sharing your experience.
xx
I had a lumpectomy and nodes removed 10ty May. Bought post op bras from M And S they are so comfy and vat free the support is just right. My nurse advised me to wear in bed if I could to help with healing. I will not be going back to wired bras as I feel so much more comfortable wearing these good luck x
Hi Pineapple. I had a mastectomy in 2005 and since then have used a specialist company called Nicola Jane ( they have a website). They are based in Sussex and have a great range of bras, swimming costumes, t shirts etc. The prices vary, but they have regular sales too( I am Scottish ). Their catalogue arrives in a discreet brown envelope. Worth a look!
Thankyou Meiard! I will definitely have a look, I love a good sale too! Xx
I'm also a fan of Nicola Jane.....and their sales!! Highly recommended.
