Hello everyone, I'm new here but wanted to ask if anyone has experienced pain whilst having a seroma drained? If so what helped. The breast care nurse attempted to drain a seroma today but it was extremely painful and she stopped, and said that she will phone me later in the week to make an appointment for me to go in for her to try again, but it was just so painful I really don't think that I will go to any appointment. I had breast cancer 20 years ago and had to have a seroma drained then as well, but it was totally pain free last time the area was completely numb, but oh my not this time. Has anyone any advice please?
Hi Snowdrop8 welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear how painful that has been for you. I would have thought that a local anaesthetic could have been given as that can be very painful. If that had been me I would also be reluctant to go back. However if you dont then it will build up and may become even more painful so I'm wondering! Is it worth giving the Nurse a call and explain to her how painful you found that and how this is putting you off coming back and see what she says. They may be able to get someone else to do this for you but dont let them do it without a local anaesthetic and explain why you feel this is required.
