Morning everyone.

im not sure what to say or why I was drawn to this page but I feel lost. My mother in law was diagnosed 22 years ago with breast cancer and had full masectomy. She then developed secondary liver cancer and has had treatment.

last night we were told (after she was rushed to hospital) that the cancer has spread to her hips and spine. She never tells us how bad it is and my husband is in complete denial.

Has anyone experienced the same? There is very little on the internet as I’m not sure what I’m looking for. I think I just need to understand a bit more so I can help xxx

  • Good morning....I am sorry your mother in law has received such difficult news. I can understand why your husband doesn't want to recognise the information. If he doesn't.....it won't be happening. But you are right to want  find out more. I can't help with that I'm afraid as my own cancer has stayed away for the moment but I know there are others who are dealing with similar diagnosis to your mother in law. Perhaps if you go to the Awake thread and ask again in case the right people miss your post here but post there? I think there is also a secondary cancer group which may also help you with practical advice.

Also I suggest you phone the Macmillan helpline and talk to someone who will probably be able to explain more clearly what you can expect and more importantly....how you can help.

Your mother in law is very fortunate to have such a caring daughter in law. I hope you find some solutions to the current difficulties and have the chance to enjoy many more days together as a family.

    Love Karen

Thank you so much for your response. I feel very lucky to have her and the children adore her.

I will do as you suggest.

So happy to hear your news.
