So my mum has had a lumpectomy with clear margins thank god and at the same time had an axillary node dissection. We have just received results and 10 out of 14 nodes were cancerous! The doctor says that she doesn’t think the cancer has spread to the body but belts and braces, let’s do a scan to be sure. Now we have more waiting ... waiting for a scan and then waiting for the results!  Has anyone had similar? I’m so worried that the cancer has now spread! My mum is 75 and so fit and healthy!  She’s like a spring chicken!! All this doesn’t feel real!

Hi Barney25 welcome to the forum and sorry that you have not had  a response so far. I know this will be of no consolation to you with the wait but they are being very thorough with your mum and this will affect what treatment  she gets when all the results are known so whilst it is immensely difficult right now it is all for the good.

It is also common for nodes to be taken for biopsy as same time as surgery to remove any lump so often the results come at the same time as knowing there are clear margins .

It will all feel very surreal for you right  now and little wonder and there is no reason to expect your mum to have treatment and continue to be as fit and healthy as she can be.
