Hi All,

I have done 5 cycles of chemo so far but over the past 3 cycles I seem to develope anal fissures. Everytime is gets worse. I have been on stool softeners but eventhough output is fine, the fissures is very painful. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I think being on chemo doesn't let it heal the way it normally does.Disappointed relieved Any advice will be appreciated

Hi, sorry to hear you are having issues. I haven't had this issue during treatment but I'm a long term sufferer of constipation and that leads to anal fissures.

I would make sure you drink plenty of fluids and keep an eye on your diet. Some people say eat more fibre but for me that makes it worse. Small meals often.

I also use hemorrhoid creams to help with the pain and itching.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Get some xylocaine ointment from the pharmacy, apply about 5 to 10 minutes before you go.This will numb the pain and also lubricate the area.Keep a look out for signs of an infection.

       hope you heal soon

  • Hi

I had 3 sessions of EC, then 4 sessions of docetaxel, pertuzamab and trastuzumab in 3 weekly cycles. On my first Docetaxal I had a bit of a sore bottom. On my second I was in agony! My bottom was red and swollen and intensely itchy! I think there may have been fissures but I am not sure all I know was it was hell. I tried every cream in the house, i phoned the nurse she said go to the chemist who would know what to prescribe. My husband went to the chemist they said I would need my oncologist to prescribe something.  I spent around 3 days and nights in tears, in agony and sat in salt baths for hours.

when I went for my next blood test prior to the third session of docetaxal I drained down on the nurse and said I was seriously considering not having any more treatment.  The nurse said that it will be the docetaxal as it goes for all of the passages eg mouth, throat, stomach, bottom!  That night I had a talk with my oncologist who prescribed Hydrocortisone cream 1% and said not to worry he would reduce the docetaxal by 20%.
it was amazing the difference!  Only slightly red which soon cleared and happily I was able to complete my 4 sessions on docetaxal at the 80% level.

please talk to your oncologist!  No one should suffer like that. I would never want to go through it again.

    good luck xx

  • Just adding to what the others have suggested.

lots of water, fruits and veg. Steroid cream when very sore. And in between non hormonal lune such as Yes Butt. Hope it settles

  • Thank you, I will get the cream from oncologist.xx

  • Thanks for your advice, xx

Yes me! I’ve just finished four rounds of EC and struggling big time. I’ve been trying creams and nothing seems to be settling it. Planning on phoning the gp next week as the itching is now driving me crazy!! I’ve read aloe Vera is quite good for soothing so trying that tonight x

  • Good luck with the aloe vera! I totally feel for you as I can’t tell you how bad it was for me!  It was worse than giving birth! At least with that you know the pain will end.

keep strong, try to find a chemist that could sell you the Hydrocortisone cream 1%. It is a steroid cream but you will only need it for a week or so.
try sitting in a warm salt bath. But for me the key thing was that following that session of chemo the reduced dose made all the difference but still did the job.

what surprised me was no matter how much I searched I couldn’t find much information on this as a side effect and yet it was the worst experience for me in 7 rounds of chemo!

please keep strong and it will wear of in a couple of days xx
