Hi,

I wonder if anyone is meditating, doing yoga, tia chi etc. I would like to try something stress relieving but don’t really know where to start.

Thank you

  • I used to do yoga before surgery, 6 weeks ago. Now I just do a few sitting poses with deep breathing and a few balancing poses. Even if it’s just 10 mins I find it help. Can’t really do down dog type poses yet as wound still healing, ask your BCN what they recommend so you don’t strain yourself.

  • , I did Tai Chi until lockdown, and continued practising in the back garden using videos and instruction sheets. I lost heart when they all went back and I couldn’t,  but I will restart practice  outside when it gets warmer. Found it very enjoyable and relaxing.Hopefully restart in May.

I also do mindfulness meditation. I took a breath works course and used audio recordings. Now I have changed to Tara Brach who dies video meditations. It is mindfulness based but has a psychological and spiritual aspect which I find extremely helpful. Just google her online. She is very good. She was recommended by my homeopathic doctor.

    Good luck xx

  • Hi Cyprusfav,

Thanks for answering. Hope you’re on the road to recovery after your surgery.

Did you follow an online class? Zoom session? I don’t know where to start!

  • Hi Seaspirit44,

Thank you very much for the recommendation. I will definitely follow that up.

I quite fancy Tai Chi. Would prefer a class too but will try on-line. Hope you get back to your class soon.

  • Hi

If you want to try yoga for free search for 'Vicky fox yoga for cancer' on youtube...she's realeased some free classes so you can try before you buy, its far too mindful for me (prefer more action & banging tunes!! Plus am quite mindless) but may be up your street.

  • Lots of yoga and TaiChi online/YouTube. My local leisure centre has online classes, including taichi, either live or catchup if you were registered with them prior to lockdown. I have done yoga before and find it good for stretching. Tai chi is good for lymphatic system too. I used relaxation, Yoga Nidra, lots during diagnosis, surgery etc as it helped my anxiety... helped de-stress me. Hope you find something you like.

  • Yorkshire Defector,

Well I‘m daft anyway, so that might help. Thanks I’ll check it out. I’ve done yoga before (and clubercise!) but it was a while ago.

  • Hi Flossie,

I did do classes at the Health Centre before so will check that out. Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I think something along those lines would really help. All the best to you.

  • Hi All,

Just to update that I’ve been to the Maggies centre in Glasgow which is lovely. I’ve booked myself in for a 1 hour relaxation in-person class tomorrow (only 5 in the class). I also have a link for a weekly Zoom Yoga class.

Looking forward to starting these classes.
