I'm starting chemo next week and it was suggested that I sort out a wig for when my hair falls out ... I have done a bit of googling and it all seems a bit mind boggling to be honest. I am rubbish at choosing clothes yet alone a wig!
Any suggestions lovely people?
Anyone else starting chemo next week? I am absolutely terrified - I think it is fear of the unknown. I just want to start it so that I can at least feel that I have one treatment down.

Hi Charlie Lou
I decided to remove all my hair myself after it had started to fall out after my 2nd dose of EC chemo.
My hospital provided a free wig but due to covid I had to choose it from a brochure. When it arrived I didn't like it. I couldn't return it.
So I have just used hats so many pretty ones out there.
In the house I just leave my head bare.
It's quite nice not having the hassle of washing and drying it. No more bad hair day's!
Last summer when it was raining I went in the garden and the rain felt lovely on my head.
My hair is being to grow back now, still not sure what it will be like as it is still very short . I finished my chemo in November.
I may decide to keep it really short in the future.
All my love to you on your journey, keep strong and positive.

Hi Charlie,
I am having my first chemo on Friday and have also been petrified of how I will react. I am starting with EC first for 3 cycles. Are you having a PICC line done for your chemo? I think I am more scared for that!
In terms of the wig or no wig, my daughter wants me to have a wig but I have managed to convince her that the hats and beanies are way more funky. Just as well cause I was told yesterday that all the wig places are still closed so alfresco it is for me!
Good Luck for next week! Hopefully we will be as lucky as Bluebell Woods who hasn't had any nausea!

All your lovely replies are so helpful - thank you so much! CrazyKSaffa - I know what you mean - I have a port thing being fitting on Monday and am more worried about that. It is all so surreal at the moment. I can't quite get my head around the fact that it is happening.
I found some funky beanies on line - still think that I will order a wig though. As Lesley Anne said maybe this is the start of new hair styling for all of us!
My friend's sister has just shaved her head as she has started chemo and I have to say that she looked beautiful...
I also found out that as I have long hair I can donate it to a charity who make up wigs for children with hair loss which somehow made me feel a bit better about it all.
Take care all - all the best for Friday Saffa.

Hi,
I'm in a similar situation, starting in the next 2 weeks.
Suppose we've just got to go with the flow, finding our own level. I'm thinking of all the brave TRAILBLAZERS who have had chemo before us.
Suppose I'll decide re wig etc when the time comes. Sitting on the fence for the time being......
Sending you my very best wishes xxx
Thanks all - I think am going to go with the wig option but it is so hard with lockdown. I have no idea how you choose - I am struggling to make any decisions at all at the moment and I haven't even started chemo yet!
Best wishes all - good luck TalkingListening.

HopeHi
i was given a number for a wig from the nurses at my first chemo. I phone them on Monday last week I had to send them photos of hair and past photos of different hairstyles that I’ve had. Once they had the photos a lovely lady called Audrey dropped 7 different styles and colours to try on. I have picked one and the others have even picked up by a courier just need to pluck up the courage to cut my hair off as it’s falling out. The company was Browns.hope this helps.
Thank you Charlie, empathising about decision-making...... Best wishes ️
Gosh , I'm full of admiration ! Thanks for the tip re wigs from Browns. Going to have a look.
Best wishes xxx
