Just over a year ago I had right mastectomy and implant, followed by three weeks radiotherapy. I still have discomfort around the implant - has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal? I saw the surgeon two months ago and he didn't seem concerned - said it's "still early days"! (A year?). It all feels very firm, lumpy and sore. Definitely can't lie on my front! I do gentle massage to ease it but it doesn't really work. Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?
Hi Kitz
I'm afraid that I can't help with your questions but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is probably because this is a very active group and posts can quickly slip off the first page before someone with the same experience has seen it. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussions list again.
I hope you manage to get this sorted soon

I haven’t had an implant but I’m almost a year down the line from mastectomy and it’s still painful under the arm and along front of rib. Unfortunately my surgeon told may it may not go away, it was much worse a few months ago so I’m being optimistic that it will keep getting better.
Hi Kitz
Like you I still have pain in my breast, after a lumpectomy in June. I’m seeing the Pain Team at my cancer hospital for post-chemo peripheral neuropathy in my feet but they also told me it’s very common after surgery for people to have ongoing pain - Persistent Post-Surgery Pain. This happens quite commonly after breast surgery due to all the nerves in that area. There’s some interesting medical papers on PPP if you google it. The key is to try and stop the pain cycle. My team are using acupuncture for my neuropathy but also putting in needles for my breast pain and it’s definitely helped. So it might be worth asking if there’s a pain team at your local hospital who you could talk to who might be able to help?

Hi,
Following a mastectomy 2 years ago I have pain in that area, diagnosed as post mastectomy pain syndrome, I have had a steroid injection into the area once which was very effective although they can only be given at 6 monthly intervals, I been prescribed Lidocaine patches to go over the area which are a great help, I also use Ibuprofen gel.
Thank you - I will try the Ibuprofen gel and see what they say next week. I just thought that after a year it would all have settled down by now!
