Heart problems on Herceptin

Hi everyone. Has anyone out there experienced heart problems whilst on Herceptin? I was taken off treatment for a month back in June 2020 and was prescribed an Ace Inhibitor and Beta Blocker. Unfortunately after a routine Echocardiogram in December I had to stop treatment again due to a low LVEF reading, to give my heart time to heal. I have subsequently had another Echocardiogram which has shown no improvement.
I have a telephone appointment with a Cardiologist scheduled in a couple of weeks but I want to be armed with as much information as possible. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be much out there, even on Dr Google.

Best Wishes

  • Hi Daffodil19 welcome to the forum.

Im wondering if you might like to give one of the Nurses a call at the Macmillan Line and have  chat with them as they may be able to provide you with more detailed information to prepare you for that appointment with the Cardiologist.

  • Hi. I think I am in symilar situation. One of my Echo showed that blood flow through heart went from 75%to just 55%. My oncologist started me on Lisinopril which improved it back to 60. I don't feel good though. I constantly feel like my heart is not beating regularly and sometimes I have chest pain which freaks me out.I get out of breath and dizzy. I had 24h tape recorder which didn't showed anything unusual so now they are sending me for heart MRI. They didn't stoped my treatment but I had only 2 left from 18sesion.

If there is anything I can help let me know. Best of luck

  • That’s the same as me. The Persephone trial seems to offer some hope that a year may not be necessary on herceptin. Six months has seemed to be a possibility. I haven’t been prescribed anything. Just had herceptin stopped.
