I am 6 weeks post op and atill having discomfort on my nipple and surrounding area and my breast is also sore too.
Has anyone else suffered this who can tell me how long this may last?
I wear bras all the time now including in bed and when I take it off I get a throbbing sensation??
Hi , sorry you’re still suffering discomfort and pain. Firstly do tell the clinic, if you haven’t already, just to make sure they know and can check it if they feel it’s out of the ‘normal’ range of post op issues. I had nipple pain for months I’m afraid. My op was in October, radiotherapy in January. There was a 10 week gap between op and rads, which worried me at the time, but I was glad for the healing time in the end. I had a long incision as the surgeon used the same one to get at both the lump and the sentinel nodes. I don’t know in cm but it was the length of my index finger plus knuckle. Much longer than the neat little incision for a lumpectomy 13 years before (that lump turned out to be benign). And my nipple hurt from the op through to the following summer. I believe the blue dye injection did it, as my incision was nowhere near. My breast felt like it had a stone in it for months and it still doesn’t feel like the other but it’s not sore as such.
But.... the pain did gradually resolve. I can’t remember exactly when, but I took up Nordic walking 6-7 months after the op and that helped loads with the residual discomfort. And I started swimming a bit around that time, something I couldn’t have imagined ever doing again in the weeks post op.
Hope it’s reassuring to know that someone else had had pain and discomfort for longer than might be expected. We’re all different and have had different lengths and depths of incisions, depending on the position of our lumps. But please do tell the breast clinic in case there’s something that needs following up. Sending love and a very gentle hug, HFxx
