Hi everyone,
Does anyone have suggestions for online exercise courses or personal trainers that specialise in post treatment patients? Since finishing chemo last summer my weight is creeping up to the point that I feel like a giant pie. I've been trying Joe Wicks but I find it too hard and a bit too 'jumpy' at times which hurts my affected breast. I definitely need something a little more chilled!
I know going outside for run is good but in all honesty, with Covid being more transmissible now, I find it hard to go out when there's so many other people. Especially when they don't bother to keep their distance...

Hello Jen JemMo,
I’m a keen walker (used to get a few miles in as often as possible) but as you said, with the virus being so transmissible now I don’t feel safe going out unless for simply medical reasons. I’ve taken to doing an indoor jog-on-the-spot to music instead, followed by stretches, followed by some yoga (usually standing) for about half an hour minimum. And that’s every day. I am not a runner but find this gets me slightly short of breath and the stimulus on my long bones has to be good for helping my pre-existing osteoporosis.
I think inner motivation will help you find something that suits you, but determination is needed to keep it going! Yoga with Adrienne (a30 day course) has been useful though I’m nowhere near flexible enough to manage without modifying quite a bit!

Hi JemMo
I hope you do not mind me responding to you as I know you were perhaps wanting to hear some suggestions from other members in this group. I saw your post and wanted to share a link to one of our recent Community News blog's in case it can help you. The Exercise and moving your body blog includes information from one of our Nurse specialists on the Support line. There are many different suggestions and recourses available and I hope it can be of some help to you.
Thank you for the link Megan. The blog is really informative, I can't believe I asked this query less than a week after a whole blog was made on the subject! My timing is impeccable
Moomy, thank you for your suggestions, I had heard about Yoga with Adrienne, I might give it a go!

Hi JemMo
I just wanted to share a couple of things. One is that there is a Pink Ribbon programme specifically for people who've had breast cancer so you could try a search in your area for a personal trainer qualified in that. I didn't have any luck finding someone, but it's worth a try - you might be luckier.
The other is that I went to physio cancer rehab after my surgery and they introduced me to hula hooping! You can get "sports" hoops (as opposed to children's ones) online - I got mine at Argos. It's pretty energetic and doesn't take too much space. Also, I live in a flat so can't really be jumping around too much and this makes very little noise.
You are also welcome to join in on the Walking Back to Happiness thread - all forms of exercise allowed, it's somewhere for us to motivate each other to stay active.

Hi JemMo
I can't see it mentioned so far but vickyfox-yoga.com sounds like it would really help you, she's a practitioner, does personal stuff and specialises in cancer patients.
I'm like you, not a huge fan of jumpy stuff. Also there's some really good low impact classes (if you can manage to get over the annoying ads) that are a bit more active on youtube, barre3 is my favourite as raises the heartbeat but is low impact and really helps shape you and can be tailored to avoid parts that may be painful (i.e. Arms over head).
Good luck de-pieing!!

Hi JemMo
if you like Pilates there’s some really good free videos on YouTube - look for The Girl With The Pilates Mat. Recommended to me by the physio at my hospital so worth a try. There’s some beginners sessions up there, or if you know what you’re doing, there’s loads of 30 minute or just 10 minute classes so easy to dip into if you’ve got a spare moment. I do the ones for back pain and it really helps.
I didn’t know about the Pink Ribbon programme so thanks for the tip ronstar!
