I am under going treatment for breast cancer. I have read on lots of websites and breast cancer patient’s verdict about permanent hair loss from Docetaxel. I had my first cycle of EC but I am too scared and worried about taking docetaxel. Please help if anyone had permanent hair loss from chaemotherapy especially Ec-T. I am already very distressed of loosing my hair and now I can’t carry on with the fear of hair not coming back.
Hi I had FEC-T (Docetaxel) in 2016 and did not experience permanent hair loss! I hope this helps you to make an informed decision.

Thanks a lot! But there are people on cancerreaserch who have claimed to have permanent hair loss after docetaxel. I am very worried
To be fair, most hairdressers (including my mother) would describe me as having 'lots of hair' - it was never thin and wispy. I cut my hair very short prior to chemo as I felt that the weight of it would put more pressure on the follicles (my own theory!). I wore the 'cold cap' for the first session of FEC and half of the second session but stopped because it gave me a migraine. I hope that you get some more responses to your question, before you have to make the decision. Take good care.
Kind regards
Gertie
Hi there, I don't know if your unit offers the cold cap, but Paxmann (who supply the NHS and are a brand leader) say that it stops any permanent hair loss as it protects your roots
I had two cycles, but as they knew the hospital threatres were to be closed in April I had a much larger dose for the second one, which fortunately I tolerated well.
I am now near the end of my treatment,a year of Herceptin We can't believe how quickly time has gone even with Covid going on.Now trying to decided on the finer things in life like do I stay grey or go back to blonde???
I think my exercising by doing beautiful walks most days has helped immensely.
Stay safe,
Yvie
Hi, I had this same fear when starting treatment as i suffered from alopecia since my teens, albeit i was lucky just to have patches that would come and go. I finished chemo in July and my hair has not only grown back but (fingers crossed) its back thicker, no patches, no greys so I wouldnt worry.
Honestly, nothing is as bad as your mind can imagine it to be. my worst times where always waiting for treatment to start, worrying about the next stage, the next treatment but it was never as bad once you are started and in the thick of it. dont get me wrong ,its challenging, tiresome, difficult at times but never as bad as my mind had imagined it would be. i found i coped better with docetaxel than the other. I also found a treatment to assist with hair regrowth helped speed things up which might be worth a look - thymuskin - i used the shampoo and serum and it certainly helped me :) best of luck but you got this xx
Hello I had 6 rounds of docetaxel my hair came back a bit thinner afterwards but I had very thick hair anyway, xx
