Hi I had my mastectomy March 2019. Physically I'm well, i think, however there are times when I really struggle psychologically. Can anyone recommend any self help books? Thanks in advance x

  • I’m really sorry I can’t really help there as I havnt been through it yet but will be in two weeks.
I don’t know if it would help in this situation but mindfulness books are really good x

  • Hi

Have you looked on the Breastcancernow website https://breastcancernow.org/information-support/publications/download-order?page=2

This site has lots of information and support specifically for breast cancer , and they have lots of downloadable leaflets , some of which might help ? I have also found the app Headspace useful

Ther are also lots of books on Amazon such as this one www.amazon.co.uk/.../259-8752368-3979917

If you read the reviews you can see if it would appeal to you , and the site also offers you alternatives you may like so you would probably find something ?

Is it the mastectomy in particular you are struggling with or the whole cancer diagnosis? I had a mastectomy and have now had two reconstructions but neither replace your real breast , and once the relief of having the cancer removed it can be quite hard to come to terms with.

Have you contacted your local cancer charity ? My local one is still offering online counselling so they may be able to offer some help and advice?

    Hope some of this helps

    Jo x

Hi Minnie M. I'm finding meditations on YouTube helpful. They can be very different and it's important to find ones that suit you.  I listen to this one in particular every night

I find it soothing and he does several different ones and podcasts.
