Hi Wave tone2

Bit of background - I had a lump in my breast around 13 years ago which was biopsied and advised I could keep the lump as it was nothing to worry about.

Fast forward - 3 weeks ago I started getting burning pain in the same breast (which I read isn’t a cancer symptom) but I felt the lump and something clicked in my head that it had moved more central. The doctor referred me.

I visited the breast clinic (who were amazing!) on Thursday, after a number of scans and biopsies I have been told I have cancer.

Along with the lump biopsy they found a node, but once I heard my lump was cancer I didn’t hear what he said about it.

Is it quite normal for them to be able to tell straight away?
he said it is small, would that Generally be encouraging?

my appointment to discuss treatment is Friday. Am I right in thinking, during this time they to do further testing to decide on treatment?

thanks for reading, sorry if I’m asking questions that have been asked a million times over Grimacing

  • Hi Emco welcome to the forum. Just when you think the beast has been slain it raises its ugly head again. I am so sorry to hear what is happening  for you right now and not al all surprised that you didn't hear all that was said, that is fairly common and one that most of us have experienced.

They are expressing to you that from what they can see it does look suspiciously like Cancer but it is and will remain a suspicion only until the biopsy results come back to confirm their suspicions. This will be the appointment of Friday when they will be able to tell you what it is that you are dealing with and the plan to treat this and what that will involve. Judging by what you are saying they are suspicious of the Lymph nodes and they will most likely  what to remove some or all of these.

Being quite small is good but they will only know with certainty when the biopsy comes back but it may have looked small on the scans etc.

Please do not apologise for asking questions that is what this forum and the people on are here for to answer your questions as best we can and try and make some semblance of sense of this all for you.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on on Friday. Are you able to take someone with you on Friday so they can hear what is being said as well.

Sending some hugs your way meantime.xxx

Thank you for the message Gail. It's really helpful, and certainly helped to make me feel supported.

I will let you know how it goes. I am on my own, but lucky enough to have a good friend who is coming with me and has offered her support throughout if I need it.

  • Hi , It is good that you have a good friend to take with you . I would also suggest a notebook and pen so that you can list the main points. When I was diagnosed the breast care nurse sat in on the interview and then explained everything again afterwards. She also gave me information booklets with relavent notes by the side of each heading. This was information  that I was able to refer to afterwards. Please do not visit dr Google - a lot of the information on there is not up to date or worse still just plain wrong. The fact that your consultant told you it was small is a good sign, but you will have everything explained to you on Friday. In the meantime try not to worry too much(although I know you will) and  believe me cancer is very treatable now as many on here are proof of. Take a look at some of the other threads on here especially the Awake one which can be very entertaining but seious too if needed. It is there 24/7 so if you are awake in the night it may be the place to visit Sending big hugs xx Kwissy.

    Hello

Just wanted to say thank you for all your replies. This week has been an odd one, but ended fairly positively I feel.

Had my appointment with the consultant today, expecting to hear about treatment.

The consultant has advised me that although the radiologist? was convinced on the diagnosis, the pathologist has said the lump is not cancer nor the node. The lump and node will be subject to further lab tests over the next week but they suspect the node to be a Papilloma and would likely remove it if so.

I have a follow up phone call next Friday with view to either have more biopsies or just remove the node (I shall request the lump be removed if possible too).

The consultant was really positive. I am happy and hopeful.

    xx Emma xx

  • Hi @Emco,

I am pleased to hear that you have had good news from your consultant yesterday. I hope the further tests  are carried out in a timely way and that any further treatment is not delayed.Take care of yourself, sending big hugs xx

    Hi Emco

i got burning pains to on one of my breasts and couldn’t feel any lumps. The nipple was also very dry. It turned out to be Paget’s disease, and they found a cancer tumour behind the nipple and a large area of DCIS.

I hope yours is nothing like this, so far it all looks quite positive for you and I hope it does turns out to be nothing serious. X
