Positive Distractions - What Gives You Pleasure?

Positive distractions? We could all use them, whether still waiting for or undergoing treatment, whether we're getting on with our lives inbetween hospital-calls & appointments for surgeries or find ourselves on that road after treatment trying to get back on track, positive distractions are welcome.

My biggest distraction is my family, looking after my boys and enjoying conversations with my partner. I love a good walk in the countryside too. My creative distractions are my piano & writing projects. And lastly I take great pleasure in a nice cup of tea, a good book, and a nice guided meditation.

What are your positive distractions? Your Be Kind To Yourself moments? What gives you pleasure?

    Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Pressed reply before I meant to!
    Walking, zoom singing with choir, listening to plays on podcasts on Radio 4 , spending quiet time with DH, watching TV, pre COVID swimming in outdoor pool and Tai Chi. Just do Tai Chi in back garden now.

    Yes walking is so very good for the soul :) I have a great love of the countryside with its mellow beauty & tranquility, it's amazing what a little sunshine, fresh air and a pretty patch of flowers can do to lift our spirits. Just standing by a field with a gentle breeze in your face or the way the world smells just after a fresh downpour, there's nothing I enjoy more than Nature's many ways of saying hello Slight smile x

  • Ooo there's so many to choose from but I'd have to go for spotting the kestrels and red kites I see increasing numbers of down here from a nature point of view and otherwise confusing passing southerners by saying Good Morning, especially as in my view its always good morning till about 4pm....keeps me amused...

    Tai Chi is definitely something I want to try once I recover from my anc. I did try it just before I had the op with my partner and we both enjoyed it.

    Positivity is a bit like the weeds of a garden I find in that it can tenaciously linger around once planted :) Let's spread it around! x

  • I knit. Sometimes my PN stops me doing too much but alternatively its good for them too. This is my jumper to ise up leftovers from my lockdown project.....the bedspread.

    For exercise I like my garden. But today it's very wet ....so a knitting day!

  • Hi , great thread!! My main sanity saver is walking. Love it! Alone, with friend/  hubby/ dog, Nordic walking (mainly zoom classes now in my case but we still use the poles). I am so lucky to be able to walk into the countryside from my door as we live on the edge of a small town. I post my photos on the ‘Walking back to happiness’ thread. I love nature, particularly trees. My favourite walk with best friend is to a nearish village and back, about 8-10 miles in all. We take our own picnics and if necessary sit under a yew tree in a churchyard to eat ie if it’s raining! Nothing stops us. 
    Also read a lot. Mindfulness through the Maggie’s Centre. And have recently discovered online scrabble. Haven’t discovered a creative side to myself but having recently retired, you never know!

    My kids are grown up but we’re close although in my son’s case, physically far apart (studying in Canada). During my treatment my daughter was travelling so it was so uplifting hearing her tales and adventures. She started in a jungle in Borneo and finished on a research boat off the Great Barrier Reef! She got back before lockdown so we had her at home for bonus months, and now she’s still not far so we see her regularly. My kids have been a joy at every stage of their lives, yours must keep you very busy!
