Me again!  For months I have had pain in part of my mastectomy area, its hard to describe but it is deep inside, not a superficial pain and quite intense, I've told the Surgeon numerous times and he tells me to use Ibuprofen Gel, he prescribed Lidocaine Patches some months ago but nothing stops it they just dull it down a bit, today its worse and scaring me, other than demanding a scan of some sort I done know what to do.  I dread talking to the Team because its a battle.  Any suggestions?

  • I wonder if you should ask for an ultrasound? I seriously think they should listen, it’s a long time since your Mx and you know your body best, which I think they should accept, surely?

  • Have you been doing your arm exercises?  Reason I ask is that I have pain (most often merely uncomfortable though), not around the mx area but around armpit area (as had nodes cleared) and I notice that its worse when I don't do my exercises (when I'm on holiday!).

I would however really badger your team, I know its an aboloute boob-ache (!) but there could be something amiss and it doesn't sound like the pain killers (the solution to everything of course) are cutting it.

Demand away - it took me a few conversations to get things I want but best to bite the bullet, gird yer loins and do it.

    Hi Mommy and Yorkshire_Defector,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I do my arm exercises and stretch my arm up quite regularly even when I' sitting in bed!  Surgeon tells me its due to the nerves being cut but I'm not convinced because I didn't have this for at least a year following mastectomy. I'll do some more badgering!!

  • Well that sounds like a load of clap-trap as I had mine cut and got the expected side effect of a partially numb top of arm!
