Hi everyone, im new to the group and was diagnosed last week. It all happened out the blue and very quickly. I am having breast conserving surgery and lymph node biopsy on Thursday and im extremely anxious as I've never had an operation or been knocked out! also worried about pain and recovery. If anyone felt the same and had a positive experience I would be very grateful to hear about it Blush

Good morning Slight smile I cannot comment on the breast conserving surgery part but i have had four lymph node biopsies to date and happy to confirm that they went ok, very little pain as I had a local. The only part that was uncomfortable was having to lie with my arm above my head for a while. I had very little bruising afterwards and they steri-stripped my boob where they had taken the biopsies from. The last lot of biopsies I had was last Tuesday and my boob was tender afterwards but I think that was from the amount of scans i also had the same day- not from the biopsies.

(i was diagnosed on July 2nd and am due to start chemo on monday)

    Best of luck xx

  • I had a WLE (lumpectomy) 5 years ago.  My third time having GA (previous age 7 & 31). The worst part is waiting but once you in operating theatre it's very quick. They introduce & then busy themselves while theatre nurse talks you through, general chit chat etc!  I didn't notice needle in hand , next thing I know I'm awake.  I came  back from theatre at 5pm and home eating soup at 8.30pm.  I did not need any painkillers once discharged .  I felt like superwoman for 2 days then crashed !  I sure a bra st night for a few weeks to support wound as in top of my breast so it would have pulled down.  I'm a G cup.  I used cotton lightly padded bras initially day & night and then lived to stretchy step onto bras for nighttime.  Xx

    Hi

I’ve had x3 surgery and like you had never had an anaesthetic so was really worried. Everything went fine. Luckily I never suffered from nausea and the pain was totally manageable for me I took regular paracetamol and also had some stronger tablets co-codamol 30/500mg which I just needed the first day. Good luck xxx

  • I was the same 51 and never had an op in my life!! I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy last week and can assure you the operation was really fine, talking to staff one minute, then asleep, woke me up after operation and I just felt like I’d had a glass or 2 of wine,

The waiting is the worst , I was lucky as was first on the list, I’ve had no problems since either, bit of numbness under arms but full mobility, best of luck but please try not to worry xxx

    Stay strong

Im 5 weeks post op now . wle and sentinel node biopsy.

Morning of op i wasnt too nervous, staff are lovely and put you at ease, i was v sick after gallbladder op 17 yrs ago and told them this, they gave mecanti nausea meds.

Chatting away to staff in theatre and next waking up in recovery , said it was sore and immediately given pain relief.

Back to my room to recover for a few hours, then home.

Felt a bit fuzzy headed but minimal pain.

Only had paracetamol and ibuprofen and was driving on day 5. By second week i felt great .

Your breast care nurse is always at the end of the phone and everyone on here are so supportive and knowledgable .

Im on my next stage now . clear margins and no spread but high onco test score so i start chemo on friday, had wig fitting yesterday and looking forward to a new hairstyle !

Let others help you ... This was the hard part for me as im a stubborn goat !!

    Good luck !!!
