Hi all I have just received my letter to go to the hospital. I could not believe what I read. Last year when I noticed a lump in my breast I had a mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy and then I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Now due to covid 19 I will be only having a consultation and after the consultation will be decided where or not to gave mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy. This does not give me the right confidence in making sure I get the correct results. I think this method will lead to mistakes and possible cancer not being found. It is bad enough for me that I can not get the right treatment for suspected asthma as no one is allow to have a spriometery test done. I think the medical professional and the Government needs to get a grip before people's health gets out of control.

  • I’m thinking this is for your annual check? Is it face to face or over the phone?

my 1st annual mammogram & check up (Due beg May) has been cancelled full stop, I am on the recall list for May 2021.

im in the private health system and I emailed my consultants secretary- this is from her reply-

Most consultants are under contract with the NHS and so are not able to resume private practice just yet as NHS practice takes priority.  We are working diligently to try and get the hospital in a position to be able to resume face to face consultations and as soon as we do we will be contacting all patients for review.

i asked about the possibility of reverting back to the nhs and was told -

Thank you for your email.  I totally appreciate these are still difficult and anxious times but I believe GP's are still able to refer patients on the an urgent referral under the two week fast track system and should you have any concerns then of course this would be the correct route to take.

As we are not an NHS hospital but only under contract with the NHS at present we are governed by the patients that are deemed urgent and can only treat them currently i.e. cancer surgery, chemotherapy.

looks as if it’s just urgent referrals at the mo although Ive read of urgent referrals that aren’t seen and others who have had annual checks as normal, it’s all a complete mess. Which doesn’t really help you at all x

  • Is this your 1year review? Mine was due about now as well. I got my mammogram done but can’t have a consultation. The radiographer said if I had any concerns to ring the BCN who would speak with me. I do have a couple of problems so did this. None of the problems are urgent but are making my life miserable so wanted advice - basically it was a waste of time as I was more or less told ‘tough put up with it’ . I was sent a leaflet from them about ‘ living with cancer’ - I don’t have cancer , I’m living with the after effects and accessing counselling isn’t going to sort out things like nearly passing out due to hot flashes whilst wearing god knows how many layers of PPE so I can do my job ( I’m a dental nurse) , and the previous advice from them of getting acupuncture does stand as no one is doing it at present. So a year on from having an , as they put it ‘aggressive’ cancer there has been no checking of the affected side.

Hi this is not my yearly review even though this is due. This was put under urgent referral. I have put a comment on the Department of Health website saying that medical professional needs to use their tools of there trade. You can not image a plumber without a wrench or an electrician without a screwdriver. Its like the Government telling people yes you canto back to work but you are not allow to use the tools of the trade. I am lucky in that this time I can tell the breast clinic the cause as this is link to the first one. I think there needs to be a safety guidelines about distance between body and the use of laptops/notebooks. Last year before I was diagnosed with breast cancer I had a habit of putting part of my laptop on my breast as I am big busted. I did not think about the heat of the laptop making by breast hot or that the tingling effect I was feeling in my breast was like my breast was acting like a magnet to the laptop. Even though I did not put my notebook on my breast this time but near to my body the heat of the notebook was making my breast acting like a magnet that I had to move the notebook away and put a cushion on my breast to act as a barrier. So hopefully something will become good out of this to help others.
