  • Yes..Me xx I'm now on anti sickness tablets x3 a day. I started taking at night so it wouldn't be as bad during the day. But because of the nausea, my Gp did some bloods and it turns out it might be the tamoxifen causing my liver to have a hissy fit. So much so I've had an x-ray and Ultra sound  last week, still awaiting a follow-up for the results. Been on the tamoxifen for 10 months, and I've felt very ill since starting it. I've had bone pain, rib pain, hip pain, fatigue and weakness, etc tbe list goes on. i can't function. No one seems to listen. All I got was stick it out a bit longer. Sorry for the rant xx I think I'm just anxious. Lol xx not everybody gets many side effects at all.

The anti sickness tablets do help though. Ask your gp.

  • Hi Snowfairy thanks for the post.

If you want to add to the list leg cramps and the symptoms of a uti but with no infection(according to my results) it's all a little wearing. I also had ultrasound scans last week which the nurse said all seems positive.  I'm waiting for an appointment with the urlogist to confirm this but I think it's my oncologist I should be seeing but my doctor suggested otherwise.

I've been on tamoxifen for 5 months and never had before any of these symptoms unless my crohns disease was having a flare up which is rare.

I will see what happens this month but I might ask about the anti sick tablets I'm just a bit reticent taking more tablets as I'm rattling with them all! lol.

  • Hi

My wife has been prescribed Tamoxifen and will be taking it once her RT is completed.  She is concerned with potential side effects, so we have considered the possibility of dose reduction.  There are some research papers on this.  Some of the doses experimented with have been at 10mgs and 5mgs per day, and have been considered effective.  We are certainly going to look into this should my wife experience issues with Tamoxifen.  She has the added complication of an eye condition, which could be impacted.

Have you considered discussing the possibility of dose reduction with your oncologist?  I say this because I know that 30%+ women reject endocrine therapy because of the problems.  Due to the beneficial effects with regard to recurrence, it could be more appropriate to experiment with dose reduction, under supervision of course.

I vaguely recall there is a thread that mentions the beneficial effects of taking magnesium citrate for the aches and pains.  This too may be worthy of investigation.

  • Hi, it does sound interesting. I can't take extra supplements such as magnesium etc as I also have a heart condition with a pace maker, this can adversely affect my arrhythmia. (I'm a cardiac nurse..can you tell).

But as you say magnesium can benefit alot for aches etc.

Will certainly initiate a conversation with my consultant  if I ever get to see him about reducing maybe, and see what he thinks.

    Thanks Dedalus

  • Hi Snowfairy

Here is one reference to consider:

I would be interested to hear what your consultant thinks about low dose Tamoxifen.
