Hi everyone. I’m new and this is my first post. I’m 36, diagnosed with breast cancer in March this year one week before lockdown hit. 2 weeks later I had a bilateral mastectomy, recovered from that and now I’m currently going through chemo, then I’ll have radiation. I was just wondering has anyone had delayed reconstruction and if so how was it and what was done. I’m considering having this done as due to covid I was unable to have it done at the time of my surgery. My mum went through breast cancer and a bilateral mastectomy last year and she’s happy to stay flat and I know lots of women are but I’m struggling to come to terms with my new body and think I might be happier having recon done. If anyone has advice I’d love to hear it.
thank you x
Hi
I will be having a delayed DIEP so can't help with the first part of your query and am not sure whether its implants or DIEP type recon you're considering
Sam
Hi thank you for your reply. I’m not a ‘suitable candidate’ for DIEP so it’s implants I’ll be having. I’ve got til next March when I go back to see my surgeon so I’ve plenty time to think. I’m usually a very positive and strong woman but this has taken the wind from my sails quite a bit but it will return I’m sure. My kids and hubby keep me going a lot, they’re a good distraction lol xx
