Hi folks,
I've had 3 of 12 cycles of paclitaxel and my scalp is so sore. I've shaved my head to a number 3 so it's just long enough to not be prickly as its falling out slowly. I'm using simple shampoo and face wash. My skin is so oily and my scalp is so painful. I've got spots all over my head, face and chest. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to help clear this up?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

HI
I am sorry that I can't give you any advice, as I didn't have chemo. But I'm bumping your post back to the first page in the hope that someone can give you some advice
Kindest wishes,
Do the spots last the entire cycle, or just the first few days? I had a bad red rash on my face and neck which progressively worsened through my 7 cycles. I tool antihistamine tablets (2 in the end) the day after chemo and for a few days.
I cold capped, and had 4 x EC first, so lost a lot of hair before paclitaxel, but I started to grow new hair (the cold cap works well with it but not EC!) whilst the original long hair was still falling out. It did get REALLY itchy (it reminded me of when my youngest caught head lice and we all got it!) and it drove me mad.....the antihistamines took the edge of that too. I stopped at 7 as was developing PN in my hands and the rash started on my right hand by then too.
Good luck. xxx
@ 1 boobed wonder I am currently having 4 x ec plus 4 x docetaxel also herceptin. I had my 3 session last Thursday after my first session I came out in a terrible rash on my face, I really recommend ringing your treatment chemo centre they really helped me they gave me tablets and cream to use.
I have treatment every tuesday the spots start to worsen from thursday then ease abit Monday. They seem to be getting more and more each week. I have antihistamines as part of my treatment. I'll ask tomorrow when I go see if i can take more as the week goes on.
Thanks for getting back to me

Hi
Slightly different circumstances...I broke out in some absolutely cracking zits quite early on in my EC chemo and found that applying neat tea tree oil worked a treat.
I found that chemo altered my skin type. I am naturally oily skinned and towards the end of chemo I had really dry, flaky scalp, hair that wasn't its normal oily self and dry skin with eczema like patches on my face which meant needed to change my moisturiser to deal with. May also be worth changing your skincare range?
I'm now just over 6 months post end of chemo and think skin/hair condition is just about back to normality.
Good luck
Sam
Hi Sam
That's reassuring. I'm trying the body shop seaweed range since yesterday to help reduce the oil I'll pick up some tea trea to help the ones I've already got. I've got an aloe moisturiser if it start to dry too much.
I'm going to ask about antihistamines today for the itchy scalp (that's driving me bonkers by the weekend).
Ill post on here if I find anything that works really well.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Max xx
