I found a small lump in my mastectomy site which has now been ultrascanned, I've been told its fatty tissue but, I can't stop worrying because it appeared from nowhere and its round and why would fatty tissue suddenly appear like that? Because my cancer was not seen on mammogram and my GP didn't act on my concerns I'm stressing that they might be wrong, I've had no sleep and I feel a wreck I'm so worried, I'm also frightened they might think I'm paranoid if I keep questioning. Any advise please.
Hi peterawake
I am sure they are more than used to women being paranoid. Given that you've already had cancer, I am sure they will understand. Tell them that you still can't sleep and the reasons why - ask them to show you what they're looking at to put your mind at rest. Given cancer cells look markedly different from fat, if they were able to show you the scans, perhaps this might help? If not, for the sake of your own mental health - explain just how this is worrying you, they might be prepared to do a biopsy.
Don't be frightened to push as your mental health is just as important as your physical health and they should totally understand this.
Thank you Lesleyhelen for you reply, I feel stuck in the BC sometimes, I rock backwards and forwards to being like my old self and then so anxious and so this lump hasn't helped my anxiety.
peterawake I had the same thing, lump in the mastectomy scar. I had an ultrasound snd they showed me, a little cyst. Mine was fat necrosis from radiotherapy. I agree you should tell them how worried you are, but it sounds to be all OK.
Big hugs xx
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Hi,
I also had a lump appear near my scar site. I had it investigated and it was just scar tissue. It is still there 3 years later.

Did these lumps appear before or after radiotherapy? If before did this affect having radiotherapy at all? I have a small lump after lumpectomy (therapeutic mammoplasty) and wondering if it will affect my radiotherapy/ show up on ct scan at planning - currently due last chemo tomorrow
,
I am fairly sure that my lump appeared before radiotherapy and it didn't affect it at all. I think it appeared after surgery, and I first noticed it during chemo.
They initially didn't want to take a biopsy as it is close to my implant so I had to have an mri. That came back as inconclusive so I did end up having a biopsy which showed it was just scar tissue.
Hope your chemo went ok yesterday.
Cwtches,
