Hi, has anyone had really odd sensations after surgery? When I drink something cold can "feel"it going down my spine, behind shoulder blade and across breast. Not really worried I think it's probably over sensitive nerves but wondering if anyone had similar, when it started and did it go? It's totally bearable but it is quite unpleasant and hoping it's not a permanent thing! I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow and started a few days ago x

Oh Yes, only get sensation across chest where I had mastectomy but yes, if I drink anything cold I can feel the cold all the way across my surgery area as the liquid goes downward.  I thought I was going bonkers, glad to hear I'm not the only one.  Just mentioned it to my partner and he said I've never mentioned it before (1 year in) but I always felt it was a bit far fetched.

It has become less often as the year has gone on so I'm guessing it will wear off in time.

    XOXO

Glad to know I'm not alone. After my mastcetomy I could feel cold drinks going down and near to my mastcetomy  site. Thought I was imagining it. It is improving 3 months post mastectomy.

  • Hi and , thanks for replying and so glad I posted as now you both know it's not just you or your imagination! It's such an odd feeling but sounds hopefully it will settle eventually.

Lol, it's reassuring to know that it is just another symptom, although a fairly weird one. First couple of times it happened I actually freaked out and thought I must be leaking inside, that's how realistic it felt.

  • Ha!  Funny you mention this as I've been having just the same when drinking cold drinks in particular...I just ignored it and assumed it was yet ANOTHER odd thing (which it is!) that the joy of cancer brings to us.  The 'odd thing' list is very long and diverse isn't it?

I do think however that this particular odd sensation is reducing as time progresses.

My secret? Being daft & staying positive.
  • Seems there is a few of us! Sounds like it will wear off fingers crossed. Yes I have quite a long "odd" list myself! Joy
