Hi,

  1. I hope you’re all staying safe & well. This is my first post so wish me luck! I know this a long shot but I wonder if there is anyone out there who has the disability spina bifida & is facing a masectomy (possibly bi-laterial) & then an immediate reconstruction with silicone implants as there only option? Or someone who’s lung function is impaired so they can’t be under a GA for a considerable amount of time & need a ventilator for a few days after the operation? Or who’s body rejected their implants? I have one other friend with SB who made a successful recovery from breast cancer but she had a different type of cancer & therefore a different surgery. My disability is making what should be straightforward cancer surgery a little bit trickier (well a lot trickier if I’m honest!) I hope someone out there can help!
  • Hi Spu1 welcome to the forum and I am so very sorry to hear what is happening  for you right now.

I am not sure about the answer to your query but it is such a unique area that you are asking about that I wonder if it might be best to direct you to the Macmillan Line for some advice from their Specialist Advisors. They may also have some leaflets or information or indeed able to point you to other organisations  that you could get reliable information form in order to enable you to make an informed choice.

Hope that you get some answers and if you do please do come back and let us know as this is always exceptionally helpful information for others. The Macmillan Line is contactable on 08088080000.

Sending you very best wishes for now. xx

Hello thanks so much for replying to me, I really appreciate it. I’ve cast my net wider to the forum because the information & specialism just isn’t there. I’m regularly in contact with specialists about my own impairment & so is my cancer team but this is all new for them as well!

Tricky! But you never know, there might be one or two people out there...!
