Hi all first I would like to thank everyone who replied to my first post and I did not get back to any one.it was because of my first chemo session did not go well and went into hospital put am home now and feeling  a bit more normal .

My new question is hair loss.  my hair has started to shed and is driving me crazy  I had long thick hair and although i still have length  it is so thin now as any one just shaved it off at this stage and how did you feel after doing this i no this is silly when we are fighting  to feel better after chemo session but am really  struggling  with this .

  • Hello ,

I'm pleased you're feeling better after the chemo. I wasn't too well with mine either so I can sympathise.  However, I did cut my hair as soon as it began to fall out. My OH shaved it and I had already bought some very pretty turbans to put on. It was January too so I had some very nice woollen berets to go out in over the turbans. Later I bought bamboo caps which I decorated with inexpensive headbands that matched my clothes. People( strangers sometimes) complimented the matching look and it was great for the morale.

Once my head was shaved I felt a lot better . It stops pulling and most important......the decision was made. There was no going back!

By coincidence I had my first hair cut exactly one year later.....my treatment was over and my hair had regrown to untidy!

I hope the next chemo goes better but be prepared. ..if it doesn't you are still progressing towards the end and it does end. It is now almost five years since my lumpectomy and I have been clear of cancer since.

Take care. Stay safe from the Covid. Love Karen

  • Hi

Glad you feeling well enough to post again . I agree with Karen it's such a relief in the end to get your hair cut really short or shave . I found I felt better that I had made decision to get rid .

I am tagging two ladies who have recently made the decision to shave you can find and on a discussion dated 9th June or there about .

Good luck with rest of chemo

Thank you karen for telling me your experiences. And I think you are right about just shaving it off but I don't think it has all sunk in yet as I was only diagnosed  13 weeks ago had surgery and noReminder ribbonin to my second round of chemo . So every think is so new to me . But when I read the post on hear about every one els it is reassuring that am not alone in all this . Reminder ribbon

    Hi

If you don't get upset at the shedding over the next couple of days, you may find your scalp starts getting sore from the weight of your hair pulling on the follicles until you go shorter.

    Hiya

Know it is probably just a 'figure of speech' but don't actually shave it off. Last thing you want is a nick on your scalp.

    Hi

I cut my hair this week, I was shedding hair and my head was tender and my daughter kept moaning she had hair in her food, clothes, books, pillow.

Mu husband cut it and I broke my heart - but I haven’t regretted it, my head feels better, I can see how patchy it actually is and I know I made the right decision.

This week I braved an online Zoom meeting and been out and about - and it’s all fine, I am relieved and pleased I made the decision - I have 4 more chemo cycles to go, so in a couple of months or so it will start growing back - it is only temporary.

I ordered some hats and bandanas beforehand so I was prepared and even though I didn’t want a wig, I am wondering if I might get one - still undecided.

Hope you are okay and though it is a big step it is only temporary xxxx

    Hi

I got my husband to cut my hair 2 weeks after my 1st Chemo. I, like you, think I was in denial, such a whirlwind. This wasn’t enough as one morning in the shower was a nightmare, hair everywhere. I got a bit upset so me and my son used his clippers. It was the best decision, no more mess. I’ve got plenty of hats and scarfs and my wig came yesterday. Feels a bit weird, not sure if I’ll wear it yet, we’ll see.

    Take care Mags X
