Hi
Sorry I can't help personally, but it might be worth asking the nurse from Macmillan. It's under this Ask and Expert section and they may be able to give you some more advice.
I do know that a lot of nurses, depending on when they qualified have different views on how to treat open wounds. (I had an RTA in 1983 and I have scar tissue on my leg which keeps opening and I've received so many different ideas - depending on who I've seen at the time).
The last person I saw was a plastic surgeon (as I also had MRSA in it - which I'd had for 2 years and I was getting to the end of my tether). He suggested keeping my leg open to the air (contrary to the dressings that I'd had on it based on nurse/doctor advice for the last 2 years) and wash it in the shower daily with Badedas shower gel as it has horse chestnut in it and this has healing properties he said. Within 3 weeks of seeing him, my leg had healed! But, clearly it might be different for a breast which has a seroma.
I totally understand how it's getting you down - with my open wound on my leg, I'd had my cancer diagnosis, operation, radiotherapy and was 'done and dusted' and still I was taking antibiotics for my flipping leg! I hope you can get some help from the nurse here.
Kindest wishes,
