Hi .. so I went wig shopping today but was so confused and dismayed over the lack of choice and the cost in particular for human hair ! So I took to the internet instead - now I’m confused over what type of human hair wig I need to buy and if it’s a good way to go about this ? Could someone advise please I start chemo on Wed and want to have my options ready as I will be trying the cold cap but think it may not be suitable for me as easily get headaches and migraines.  Thank you

  • Hi

I didn't buy a human hair wig but an artificial wig and you really couldn't tell the difference.

The hospital I was treated at gives a £100 voucher to help with the costs of wigs which can be redeemed at a selection of specialist wig suppliers. I chose one close to where I live that was also a hairdressers. That way I got to try on lots of different wigs and then have my long hair cut to a similar style a few weeks before I started chemo. People were then used to seeing me with a new short style before I lost my hair and had to wear the wig.

However, I only really wore the wig if I was going somewhere special as I was happy wearing soft chemo hats, turbans and headscarves. I used a company called www.annabandana.co.uk who have lots of affordable styles to choose from.

All the best with your treatment

i only wore it when i went out for special things, i also had a $50 one from amazon I wore with hats,

i bought a heat friendly one
