Hi all.

Found lump a few weeks ago and seen by breast doctor who thought it was fatty tissue. As ive not had a mammogram I was told to have one .

Had mammogram and ultrasound then they told me it looked suspicious. Biopsied lump and a nodule under my arm.

Guess i knew then what it was. Nodule was clear but lump was breast cancer. No history in family.

Same day as i got first biopsy results ...

She said lumpectomy, radiotherapy and tablets ( doesnt think chemo is needed but rest of biopsy results due tomorrow). Had pre op there and then and lumpectomy is booked for 11th june.

Scared of the general anaesthetic and not looking forward to corona test either !

Having a magseed implant this wednesday.

Ive been quite positive so far, lump is 1.7 cm, met a lady in clinic both times and we are scheduled for ops on same day.

Told immediate family and my little grandaughter is 8 and had 3 open heart surgeries. She says nanny and her will be twins with our scars .

Furloughed from work atm but not sure whether to tell my workmates or not.

Guess everythings going a bit fast at the moment !

Ive had an op on the lower part of that boob to remove a breast abcess a few years ago so im not completely in the dark about ops. She said they will remove the first 3 lymph nodes too.

How long does the surgery take ?

Sorry for waffling , but as busby said on the advert many years ago ... Its good to talk xx

  • Hello ,

welcome though sad you’ve needed to find your way here. It’s a busy group!

i guess an hour or two or maybe a bit longer for your op, but bear in mind the time in anaesthetics and recovery after the op, though as you’re not going to be awake for it surely it shouldn’t matter? What matters most is that they will get on with it and hopefully get clear margins and not find any cancer in your nodes.

Have a look around the threads on the group, there are two ‘sticky’ monthly ones with lots of helpful advice should you need either chemo or radiotherapy (possibly both but we hope neither!) Theres also one for keeping you amused/informed/occupied if you find yourself awake in the wee small hours, called ‘AWAKE....’ which a certain lovely lady began when she couldn’t sleep. May of us dip in and out of that one, at all times of day and night!

keep posting, keep hoping and stay safe

    Hugs xxx

  • Hi Elvisgirl1123

As moomy  has already explained you will be in very good hands while you are in theatre- the staff are wonderful and will explain everything that is going to happen. tell them that you are worried about the anaesthetic and I'm sure they will be able to reassure you.Prior to going to theatre you will be seen by the anaesthatist and all will be explained -this is the time to talk about your concerns.

I am just over 4 weeks post lumpectomy myself and despite my worries beforehand  have had good results.I wish you the best in all your treatment and am glad you found this great site and the support it gives us all.Do ask questions ,there is a wealth of knowledge available from those who understand exactly how you are feeling at the moment. We've been there and bought the t shirt!! xxx

  • Hi

When I was going through surgery established an excellent thread "***surgery chat***" (you can find if you search but select most relevant rather than most recent on the filter options, I'd add a link but am a technical eejit).

You may find the discussions useful to understand more about your operation, node removal, recovery etc. plus you may want to interrogate some of those who've been through it?

    Good luck

    Sam

    Hi

If you click this link -- It will take you to the Surgery Discussion  (Sam) has mentioned Slight smile

It stretches to quite a few pages so you may have to cherry pick your way though for the most relevant messages.

This one will take you to the Awake Thread if you fancy a looksee Wink

    Hi kwissy

Hope you are continuing to recover from the lumpectomy.

I had my magseed implanted on wednesday 3rd. Op is now scheduled for 17th.

Went shopping the day after and alarm went off as i walked into shop. Probably coincidence but it really gave us a giggle !

Maybe i need to buy the t shirt !

Hi your story is very similar to mine, I had a lumpectomy and node removal on 16 March as a  day patient  the aneathetist came to see me before surgery and the theatre staff explained everything. The waiting to go into was the worst but once you go down the surgery is about 2 hours and the recovery about 1 hour then back to the day room for some coffee and toast. My surgery went really well and I was very surprised that I had so much movement in my arm.

I didn't have a magseed implant as my lump was 44mm so it was easy to find.

I've only told my manager at work its up you who you tell my family and friends know but that is all.

Try not to get too panicked, easier said than done I know.

    Audrey xx
