Hi.

Months after my mastectomy I still find myself waking up at 2am with a racing heart and although I go back to sleep I never feel like I have slept.  Does anyone else out there experience this and is there counselling available?

  • Hi

i don’t wake as you do but I’ve struggled with other anxiety symptoms after treatment. Have you spoken to your BCN at all? She should be able to refer you for counselling or if you have a Havens or Maggies cancer centre they offer counselling too. At the moment everything will be virtually but hopefully will help.

If you get no joy with your BCN try your GP. Mine has been brilliant going through everything.

I hope you get some help xx

    Hi 1212,

Did you have chemo before your mastectomy as this can cause tachycardia? If so have a check up with your BCN or GP.

  • Hi , I wonder if it could be the tamoxifen? (I think you're on it?). I used to wake up with a racing heart a lot during my menopause, and started having the same after a while on anastrozole, so I'm thinking that tamoxifen could possibly have the same effect. It's settled down now for me, having been on anastrozole for 18 months, still happens sometimes but much less often. I also find it's affected by feeling anxious (which can be another side effect of anastrozole!). Ever felt like you're going round in circles??!! Disturbed sleep is horrible. HFxx
