Hi everyone, I’m new to this so please bear with me. 5 weeks ago I had to have Mastectomy after two previous operation s hadn’t removed cancer cells, I’m having lots of problems with fluid build up and my chest is very hard and sore, Macmillan nurse said chest hardness is my ribs! It is early days yet  I realise that, But I was given LETROZOLE 2 weeks ago I’m just not feeling right since taking it, legs have burning sensation, very restless legs day and night, my whole body is aching from head to toe, I do suffer from Fibromyalgia and wondered if it was a flare up, but this is different sensation. Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this drug. Thank, you

  • Hi and sorry to hear that you're struggling a bit with the surgery and tablets:/

Can I ask which brand of letrizole you have,  as they all seem to have different side effects.  Cipla gave me terrible joint pain (most found it by far the worst), Sandoz was much better but make my head feel a bit dizzy sometimes,  Accord was the best of the  generics until I had issues with my eye ( a less common side effect) and I'm now trying Femara (the original make) which is better apart from the odd pain in my hands!

Some people take claritin to help, whilst  others take tart/sour cherry or turmeric  the tart cherry gave me stomach pains but I find the turmeric helps, and I sometimes take the  claritin.

It's also early days recovering from 3 operations,  spo it might be your body trying to heal as well?

  • Hi ,

Welcome to the Forum none of us want to join and yet find it to have the most welcoming, kind and knowledgeable people around.

You have come to the right place.  I am so sorry you have had such a lot to go though, you know, I don't think we actually give ourselves the credit we actually deserve when we get on this rollercoaster of a ride. We tend to just get on and go full steam ahead to get through it, never really thinking what our dear bodies are going though.

I agree with all the has said, it is very early days for you, you have gone though so much, your body hasn't had time to heal and you are now on letrozole.

It could be a mixture of all of these, your body could be having a fibromyalgia flare up (my friend suffers with this and often has restless legs at bedtime).  The letrozole can cause some to have mild side effects whilst others have their side effects build up over time and others have them come and go. I am on this tablet and my main side effects are joint pain in my hands - along with 'trigger thumb' (thumb locked in straight position) - thankfully this has now gone.

I have also read of a lot of the ladies taking Claritin (the treatment used for allergies, hay fever, etc) apparently this is good at easing joint pain, as yet I've not tried this.

Your body may just be trying to sort it self out after all you have gone though.  Be kind to yourself and remember to rest.

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi there, has anyone had throat problems after starting to take Letrozole? TIA x

  • It dries out skin, eyes,  'lady parts' hair and your throat. Some women take it with a big glass of water,  and try to drinks lots of fluids in the day. There are drops for eyes,  creams and pessaries for down below and creams and lotions for your skin. The throat is a thickly one,  though I find chewing gum or eating a sugar-free sweet helps.

  • Hi Londonmumof2'

Thankyou for your info-I have found that my skin especially  on my face is much drier and needing to moisturise more.I had put it down to being locked in for all these weeks but am now thinking it could be the Letrozole! My eyes have been dry and again didn't connect it to the drug but since using my hay fever eye drops regularly(instead  of intermittently) they are much improved. Having been on this journey before I shall try and continue to take them as prescribed  and hope they do the trick as before.
