Hi folks,
Last Thursday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My emotions are a total rollercoaster. I've cried constantly, been sick everyday since hearing the news, I can't sleep and I'm just totally gripped with terror. The care team are wonderful, but I have so many questions.
They have told me that it is in the early stages, the tumor is small and my age 57 is all positive news. But according to the mammograph report, the tumour is 14mm in my right breast, and the cancer may be in my lymph nodes, as the mammograph report says that 21x12 mm lymph node of hypo echoic thick cortex in the right axilla - what does this mean? Is there treatment?
What is worse is I'm the first person in my entire family to have cancer. All this was totally unexpected and just blown my mind.
Hi Hamie. Welcome to the group.
Now take a deep breath....it is so much to take in..write all the questions down you want to ask..as you will forget once your talking about treatment.
Have you met up with your breast surgeon yet?take in all your options..try not to read everything on Google....it's frightening oug there..you say "it maybe" in your lymph nodes....that's not definite....wit till you see your Oncologist..make sure you take someone with you.my fingers will be crossed for you.
My history is...first time breast cancer in 2002..I was 42.. grade 3 aggressive.. surgery..chemo.. radiotherapy... j didn't cope with chemotherapy very well...
Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer again in the other breast..grade 3 triple negative...surgery..(refused chemo this time) had intense radiotherapy...its been 10months since I finished treatment..
I was the only one in our family of 6 to have breast cancer...
You can beat this listen to your heart..rest when you can..I wish you well.keep intouch on here.. its great support..
Elaine
Hi
Your bc has been found early which is good. My tumour was 30mm and found after my mastcetomy and it had spread to 2 of 6 lymph nodes which were removed. I am the only family member diagnosed with bc. Like most of us a diagnoses of bc is devastating. This site is a great supportive and informative site. If you are unable to sleep you may like to visit the awake forum where there is usually someone to talk to whatever the time of night.
Remember you are not alone and there is so much support available.
Hopefully your oncologist will answer all your questions but feel free to ask here as well.
Take care and good luck

Hi,
It really is an emotional roller coaster, I was in a daze and couldn't take things in, I couldn't sleep or think straight, and I can remember feeling terrified, in fact I told my Team I was terrified.
I too was the first person in my family to have BC, I had a Mastectomy for a 4CM tumour and 0.5CM DCIS with 4 nodes removed, 2 had micromets. I'm sorry I can't help with the hypo echoic thick cortex in the axilla, could you ring your Breast Care Nurse to ask her?
I just want to say hello....and welcome!
I am thinking of you and all those things that go through your mind....you are not alone. Those thoughts and fears have been with us all....whether it be a small, medium or large tumour....in none, one or, in my case, many nodes. It is a scary, super frightening, off the scale, never thought of, what the f**k has happened!
Breathe...I promise you it will get better...
I found, and joined the fruit loops on the ‘awake’ thread....it helps.....it really does.
My advice....keep in touch....ask any questions....share any doubts. I found that I could talk more openly here than anywhere else.
And sometimes, I just wanted to brain dump....shout....scream....and that’s okay too!
We are here....night and day...
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
