Hi my chemotherapy 3 x EC and 3 x D is due to start on Thursday 21st May, so I've been to meet staff and had my bloods etc done. The nurse said she is a little concerned of my veins being a little small for a cannula and to look at central ( Hickman) line on the website. Has anyone gone down this route and have any advice?
I've also had my long hair cut short and was fitted for a wig today so I'm feeling a bit strange.
Hi Audrey68
Sorry I cant answer your question about a Hickman line as I am not due to start my chemotherapy until next week but wanted to say good luck. Please share with us your experiences good or bad as we can all support one another going through chemotherapy. I've chosen my wig but not had it fitted yet . I Am going to try the cold cap which may help reduce the loss of hair but if it doesn't work well at least I gave it a go. I have ordered some pretty scarfs to wear as well. Also going to try wearing dark nail polish as I believe it may help to protect your nails.
Best of luck for Thursday.

Hi &
my story on profile just click on my name
just a short message to say don’t worry too much about hair loss . After been told EC is harsh on hair My decision was to not bother with cold cap and just go with the flow . We all different so it does depend on how you feel. I was told hair loss from first EC most prob . Not so mine stayed up til third treatment. I did have wig but only wore it three times . Just embraced bald or wore beanie hat .
couple of tips use a bamboo sleep beanie handle hair as little as possible I just finger dried mine. Finally it does come back . I had my head shaved just before last chemo in Dec . Started to grow back 8/9 weeks later . This is it now
Also don’t forget to have a look at May 2020! chemo thread it’s at top of discussions lots of good info

Hi Linda
Thanks for replying, I too am going to try dark nail varnish and I'm not too worried about losing my hair I'm sure it will grow back most people's does. As for the Hickman line I have read about them and I will trust the staff to do what is best.

Hi Margaret
Your hair is looking great. I was trying to post this comment in May chemotherapy thread but other than replying to a comment already there I couldn't find how to do that. The tips bags a lot of helpful information I've gone through it a few times as I don't seem to be retaining the information and that's before chemo brain sets in. I think I'm all set now.
Thanks
Audrey
Hi Northerner
thanks for the additional tips, any advice is always helpful. Your hair looks great. It may look like I'm really worried about losing my hair but I'm really not. Just going to accept whatever happens.
Take care

HI To comment on a thread you hit reply then say what you want to say . It then appears as last comment .
When you want to reply to another persons comment you can highlight their name .
To do this you click on the @ then type the name as you type a list appears if you spell whole name just that one will be left click on it and name highlights within your comment and that person is notified .
Hope this helps glad you feel all set .

Hi , I'm starting my chemo tomorrow too, I see they gave you a covid test you must live in England. I was supposed to start my chemo on May 7th but was delayed till now because my daughter tested postive for covid 19 shes a nurse. I tried everything for them to give me a test but they wouldn't so I'm going into chem non the wider I think it's wrong but I've got to go on with it.
I was hoping to have my hair cut short before chemo but then all the hairdressers shut down so I decided to brave the shave for Macmillan charity on Friday my husband is doing it lol I have raised 1700 already which makes me feel better.
Good luck tomorrow, hopefully it wont be too bad
Hi how very brave and courageous of you to brave the shave WELL DONE!!!
