Ibandronic acid - jaw necrosis?

Hiya! I began taking Iasobon in June 2017, and have just started on my final pack. Unfortunately, over the last few days I have been suffering from really badly aching jawbones. I thought that perhaps I was clenching my teeth in my sleep, as that sometimes happens, but this is more persistent. Prescription Co-codamol helps for a while, but then the pain returns. I'm due to see the dentist for my checkup in October, but I'm wondering whether it's worth giving them a ring. Does anyone know whether jaw necrosis comes on so suddenly, or am I worrying about nothing? Grateful for any advice!

Hi Sophie , I would definitly contact your dentist or failing that an emergency dentist. I have been taking Ibranonic Acid for several years and not had a problem with jaw pain .However my dentist advised me to contact him in between appointments if I got jaw pain! Better to see someone early than worry about this and it is mentioned in the leaflet that comes with the tablets as a possible side effect.Hope you are able to get further advice from your dentist, be sure to mention that the co codaamol only helps for a while.  xx

  • Thanks — I will give them a call.

Hi, Hope you had a good telephone conversation yesterday with your dentist.Sending hugs.

  • He was fairly helpful, and has got me an emergency prescription for diclofenac to help with the pain, but the surgery is closed and there is not much they can do at the moment. He couldn't commit on whether it is necrosis or not, so I'll have to wait until things are a bit more normal for a physical checkup.
