Hi I’m not sure if this has anything to do with my treatment but it started yesterday I can see black jagged lines at the side of my vision only in one eye the other has a black dot right in the middle and both follow around where ever I look

should I be concerned or could it be because I’m not sleeping well?

I finished all the chemo ( EC) middle of March now I’m on Letrozole and ibandronic acid (iasibon) been on them about 6/7 weeks now

move got an appointment with my oncologist middle of june Should I give them a ring on Monday or am I just worried for nothing

any advice would be great thank you all so much xx

    Hi

I'm 'tagging'  as she had retina problems but I'm unsure if this was treatment related or coincidental.

I would however phone your Onco soon and ask about this - As it could be tied in with either late chemo (doubtful if you finished mid March)  Letrozole or Ibandronic.

Hope you get some answers soon and it is something temporary, G n' J

Thank Blush much appreciate Blush xx

  • I'd go straight to A&E, preferably one specializing in eyes. I had a posterior retinal detachment a couple of months in from letrozole, and apparently AIs can rarely cause this as there is oestrogen in the eye.  It manifest as a stinging pain quickly followed by a bleed in the eye (I still have the remnants of the 'twig shape' floating around,  though fading,  and a slightly foggy (which has gone now). I went to Moorfields a&e, and after testing and diagnosis was meant to have an out patient's appointment,  but that's cancelled due to covid-19. They did say that if I developed a black area at the side like a curtain to get in a taxi to them, as it was probably a retinal tear which would require surgery.

I stopped letrozole for 5-6 weeks after reading that it was most likely to happen then,  restarted again on alternate days,  and after about a month started to get flashing lights.  My left eye has been pink for a few days so I called my doctor and on my request he has given me Femara to see if it's any better, and I'm taking it every other day as well.  If that doesn't help I'm to try the AI beginning with E instead. Let us know  how you get on, and good luck!! X

  • Hi,

I have had eye problems since my late teens. Various complications,  the causes can't always be determined but usually treated, they calm down and may reoccur with similar symptoms or something totally different. I have never had black lines so can offer no suggestion there but..............

More than one eye specialist has told me and the first ones were in Moorfields Eye Hospital.....' always go to have any eye problem checked immediately.  Never imagine it is not important.....We( the eye consultants) would rather see 9/10 people with no significant problem to deal with the one which left untreated might cause blindness.'

I have never forgotten this advice and always gone either straight to A and E or phoned an eye specialist. My advice to you would be to do that......if it's oncology who need to deal with you an eye specialist will fast track you and if it's coincidental, they'll deal with it.

I hope the problem is dealt with quickly and you can relax without the additional worry. I wish you well.

    Love  Karen
